I cannot believe they would live like this - and with KIDS - they should be put in jail.

And this is a military family. You can see air force patches in one of the pictures near the bottom (next to the cigarette butts). If you have a weak stomach you may not want to view this.

OMGosh! That is so gross...I can feel my stomach churning!! How did you come across this? Ugh.

I would puke if my computer screen were a scratch N sniff!

By Tink on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 09:54 pm:

That is absolutely the most disgusting home. I agree, raising children in a house like that should be considered abuse or neglect. If they take care of their home that way, how are they caring for their children?

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 10:01 pm:

That is probably the most disgusing thing I've ever seen. I have to agree with Heidi about the scratch N sniff!

By Sue3 on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 10:10 pm:

THAT is so Gross. My first thought was it was a home with some young adults in their partying phase.
Then I saw the crib.
Yes, I would consider that abuse also.
I even questioned it at first if it was real or not because the toilet was gross though the tub seemed clean.
It isn`t on snopes either.
So, I guess it`s true.
We have a guard up on our computer for when the kids use it and I had to submit my password before they would even let me open this site.I haven`t ever heard of ebaumsworld.YUK.

By Kate on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 10:18 pm:

That's very sad. Hopefully they're getting help now since someone obviously documented these photos.

By Marcia on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 10:19 pm:

Thanks for sending that page. I now feel like I have a VERY CLEAN home!! LOL I don't feel like that often. ;)

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 10:23 pm:

smileyEwww!

By Amy~moderator on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 10:24 pm:

Marcia - me too. In fact, I got so grossed out that I just finished scrubbing my kitchen - there were a few things - like baseboards - that I was meaning to get to, and after viewing that house, I couldn't wait any longer - LOL...

I am a part of a military wives group for my post and someone posted the link. I don't know how she came across it...

By Brandy on Thursday, July 21, 2005 - 11:01 pm:

ewww my kid(8 years old) said that's one messed up house lol = ) yep it sure is...

By Andi on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 12:48 am:

Oh my gosh, are those for real? Did people actually live like that? The poor children that had to live in that filth...makes me sick!

By Rayanne on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 07:19 am:

Whoops...there goes my breakfast. That was so gross!!!

By Eve on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 07:49 am:

Ok, I won't complain about my dirty house! My floors need to be done, but wow, nothing like that! Gross! I think there are people that live like this and it's sad that any child has to grow up in that!:(

By Tunnia on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 08:44 am:

Those are really nasty pictures!

I have witnessed, first hand, a house very much like that.:( We had neighbors (middle aged, not young adults) who lived next door and when they abandoned their house, about a year after we moved into ours, they left their front door open. Dh and I decided to go over and secure the place so the neighborhood kids wouldn't take it over. We live in a pretty nice neighborhood, but you know how kids are. Anyway, when we walked up on the porch the smell hit! We were shocked by what we could see through the front door and we decided to go in and look around. The filth and clutter was unbelievable! The bathrooms and toilets looked like those bathrooms in the pictures. There was filth and stuff everywhere and the carpet was so full of trash and clutter that you couldn't even tell what color the carpet was, and the bugs, oh my! I get goose bumps just thinking about it. You had to walk on trash and stuff to walk through the house. Those people simply left and didn't take anything with them, not furnishings, photo albums, nothing. The bank eventually foreclosed on the place and tossed all the furniture and stuff on the front lawn and then a service moved in to clean and get the place ready to sell. It took the service a solid month to get the place clean. The floors were so bad that they even had to replace the subflooring to get the smell out! I would have never believed that anyone would live in those type of conditions.

That is awful! Did anyone see the plastic bag hanging out of the babies crib! I seen a house similar to that one time. I was babysitting when I was a teen, got a prank call that neighbor kid was hurt and home alone. The mom happened to be home for lunch and we went over to investigate. We looked in the windows and saw a mess like that. We could not see the floor to see if the kid was hurt so we tried the front door. It was unlocked and we went in. (let me clarify this was only because we thought the kid was hurt inside). Anyway it was disgusting like that. The family had there own construction business aka money. The mom I was babysitting for was a neat freak I thought she was going to flip. She said this explains why all there company always sits outside! People should be ashamed of themselves.

By Reds9298 on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 04:23 pm:

OMG! I have been in SEVERAL homes like this. Most people just generally do not know how terribly some people live. My former job (and current one) require me to do home visits and let me tell you, it's not pretty. Some people just simply do not care. I have been in so many homes where I just do not want to sit down anywhere.
Terrible and disgusting, and unfortunately more often that you would think.

By Bellajoe on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 04:39 pm:

I really feel sick now. The first thing I thought was "i'm so glad i don't have to smell that!" although i feel like I can almost smell the nastiness in that house just by seeing t he pictures.

They should be arrested for child endangerment or something.

By Juli4 on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 04:53 pm:

well I feel bad for putting off cleaning my bathroom (which is no where near bad) so off to clean now. How disgusting. I have been into many homes that are cluttered and such and have stacks of stuff laying around ,but never one where I didn't want to sit down or where I didn't want to use the bathroom. There is a difference between having too much stuff and being down right dirty

By Janet on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 05:07 pm:

Oh, this can't possibly be real. There must be something else going on...either it's been set up or the house was abandoned or SOMETHING!

By Insaneusmcwife on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 05:49 pm:

And I though my house was bad!

By Trina~moderator on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 06:26 pm:

Oh, I believe it's for real. When I was teaching I went to a seminar about child abuse. The speaker presented a slide show of two houses he had been in where the children were taken away by social services. They looked very much like the pics at the link above. :( Very sad. My house is never as clean as I would like it to be but, my goodness, NOTHING like that! I can't even imagine letting things get that bad.

By Jelygu on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 08:15 pm:

That is so disgusting! I can't imagine the smell, gross! They should take away the kids and the poor cat! Shameful!

By Marcia on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 08:45 pm:

I used to do home visits in some pretty nasty places - places where I had to look around to decide where I would get less dirty sitting down. None of them ever looked as bad as that place, though!!! I would have refused.

Did anyone see the Oprah that showed one woman's dirty place, and she had animal feces all around, along with many other disgusting things? It was easily as bad as this one! She looked very professional when she went out, but was very depressed, and her place turned into an absolute dump. It was gross!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, July 22, 2005 - 11:06 pm:

There is a show on the Life Time channel called "How clean is your house?" Monday nights at 11:00 PM I believe. And yes every house looks like those pictures. The Oprah show had houses like that too. I have known people that lived like that in my life and I don't get it. It still amazes me to see houses look that bad. Those poor kids..

By Pamt on Saturday, July 23, 2005 - 12:31 am:

I totally can believe it. It's really very sad. I think it starts off as a simple case of depression and not feeling like putting things away/cleaning up and then spirals out of control. It gets to the point that the person gets hopeless because they don't even know where to begin. I'm a member of our local Flylady group and I suspect that 2 members of our group live like this. I've never been to their homes, but from things they say...I wonder.

By Amy~moderator on Saturday, July 23, 2005 - 01:40 am:

I believe it's for real, but I have never personally been in a house THAT dirty. Ugh I feel sick. I'm going to have to look at the pics again - didn't see the bag on the crib...

By Crystal915 on Saturday, July 23, 2005 - 02:52 am:

We have a neighbor who is like that, but not as bad. The wife was out of state visiting (hubby is deployed), and asked her next door neighbor (a friend of mine) to watch the place, and check the mail. My friend went in there, already knowing this woman wasn't a very clean person, and was dumbfounded by the filth. It was NOTHING compared to those pictures, but she did take photos after being urged by me and others, because the house was seriously bad enough to border on abuse. Her small children live in filth. It's really, really horrible!

By Kernkate on Saturday, July 23, 2005 - 08:40 am:

Totally Gross!
