Would you believe Im going to have a home evaluation because I want to adopt a dog from the rescue group? LOL.. Oh Im not mad, Im glad they are so thorough..The home evaluator lady is coming on Saturday to evaluate our home to make sure our home is safe. I think its kind of neat how they do all this checking. We want to adopt a dog from the Golden retriever rescue group. I talked to the lady on the phone for a long time when she called. Im hoping they can find us the right dog for our family. Ive never gone this route before getting a dog, so its all new to me. I made sure my dog now had a good bath, and my husband cut out all her matted hair, so shes looking all pretty LOL :)

I'll keep my fingers crossed that all goes well. Kudos to you for using a rescue group for your new family member!

My friend is having the same thing soon - a home inspection for a dog adoption. Personally I think that's a little over the top.

I agree Mommmie....

Add me to the over the top list. I realize there are bad homes out there and dogs are neglected/abused. But I think that this is a bit much..

Hi Jackie,
Good for you for adopting a dog! That is so wonderful of you to open your to a homeless dog.
I run a non profit dog rescue and we do home inspections on all of our dogs. The reason why we do home inspections is
1. To make sure that you say who you are on your application and not some weirdo.
2. Because we do this all the time, we can tell you if there are any hazards in your home for the dog you are adopting. I.E. an escape artist, a counter jumper etc. All of our dogs are in foster homes so we know exactly what their pros and cons are.
3. To make sure they can not get out of your yard, or any hazards in your yard.. Pool, low fence etc. We always work thru the problem (like making sure the dog can get out of the pool if the dog fell in) or giving you 7 days to fix a problem with the yard/fence/gate.

I have several dogs that we have spent THOUSANDS on rehabilitating. Some have been abused, or just simply thrown away. I have a connection with each dog and we just want the best for our animals. I usually only walk thru the "living spaces" of a house and am most concerned with the yard.
While some think it is "over the top" I hope after reading this you know why.

I agree with Shelly...you'd be surprised how many lonely weirdos are out there!
It IS kind of funny though...at least you don't have to wait forever for your dog to come from China!

Shelly, please do not take offense to this question. It is a sincere question. Why do people spend THOUSANDS rehabilitating dogs? If the dogs are in need of such extensive rehabilitation, why not just put them to sleep? I just think thousands of dollars would go to better use if it were spent on human beings who need help, instead of animals. This is NOT a slant against animals, it's just that there are many, many dogs out there in the world so if someone wants a pet dog, they will have no trouble finding one. Why spend so much money on animals who are in such trouble? Why not help PEOPLE by spending the big dollars on them, and just spend smaller dollars rescuing dogs/animals who don't require so much money and attention?

Again, PLEASE do not take offense. It is just my personal opinion that humans and their needs take precedence over animals, and I am sincere in my question to you. Are you turning them into seeing eye dogs? Or some other aid type dog? Or do you just rehabilitate them into pets?

I do admire your devotion to animals and I am glad someone is there to help abused creatures. I just think sometimes the help goes too far and resources could be better spent on children or other people in need.
