Chores for children

In our house we have a chore chart that gets changed weekly. We have a magnetic board and I have typed chores and laminated them and put magnets on the back. Each week I take them off of the board , turn them over and let each child take turns picking chores. They include things like brushing the cats, filling the cat bowl, putting the recycling in the garage, clean the glass doors and TV screen, set the table for dinner, wipe table after dinner, clean up the computer area, Make a dinner choice and help prepare it, bring in the mail, water outdoor plants, etc. These are things to be done daily and they are NON PAID chores. What I need is a list of PAID chores so they can earn spending money. My 10 yo suggested things like emptying the dishwasher. What other chores can you think of that they can choose when they want to earn extra money?

I let my 2 boys pick any of my regular chores to do for extra money. My boys are younger(5&7), so sometimes I end up helping them. My oldest ds has been saving for a scooter. He was short just $3.00, so he swept the floor with a dry duster, dusted, and helped clean the bathrooms(I supervised this). I gave him $3.00 and he bought his scooter yesterday. He is so proud of it. I think mainly because he saved and bought it with his own money.

I would think she could do any household chore at age 10. Things like dusting, vacumming, cleaning bathrooms(I would supervise this because of the cleaning supplies needed) My boys on a regular bases clear the table, help me with dishes, take out the trash, clean their rooms and put their clean clothes away.

Take out the garbage and recycling
Clean the bathroom sinks and counters
Sort the laundry and bring to laundry room
Vaccuming
Dusting
Sweep or dust the floors once a week
Outside clean-up like hose down the driveway or sweep it down
Pick-up sticks and things off the lawn before it's mowed
Rake leaves in the fall
Weed the gardens

Hope that helps.

Here are a few extra jobs I was paid for as a kid:

Clean the fridge: pull everything out, throw away icky stuff, wash all the shelves

Deep clean the bookcases: pull all the books off, wipe off every shelf with a wet rag then dry and replace books

Polish the piano

Wash windows

Deep clean/organize the home entertainment system, video games, movies, etc.

Sweep the garage/driveway/porch

wash/degrease/polish the front of the kitchen cupboards

clean/organize under the sink

Thanks. I have a 7 year old dd (as of today) and a 10 year year old dd. I think these chores are all appropriate for them. I think just getting into a routine of doing them will be the hardest part! Thanks again!
