Murphy's Law

Must have been written for me. We had new windows installed today. For some insane reason, I thought everything would go as planned! LOL

First of all, in the middle of them pulling my old windows out, it started pouring rain for an hour. Then, when they got to the last window - which was the bathroom window - they discovered it did not fit the opening. Either the salesman messed up measuring, or the factory messed up building the window. Whichever, it has to be reordered, which will take another 3 weeks or so.

So then, because it was raining, they could not caulk around the windows, they have to come back on a dry day. OK, I can deal with that.

But THEN.....after they leave, I discover that the window in the kitchen is faulty, as well as one in Jeff's bedroom, and something is wrong with the one in Jen's bedroom too! Not only that, they took out chunks of sheetrock around the window sill in a few roomswhen they pulled out the old windows.

I am soooooooo mad. We still owe them more than half, and I have already put in a call to the company. They will not see one more penny from me until each and every window is installed, caulked and working to *my* satisfaction, and something is done about filling the chunks of missing sheetrock. When I say *chunks*, I mean areas that are maybe quarter size at most, but puhleeze! I didn't expect that.

How frustrating Karen! I hope they do something quickly!

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 07:38 pm:

At best, some of it will be corrected this week. At worst, it will be a month.

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 07:38 pm:

I should say, at worst, it will be a month, OR they are not getting the rest of their money! LOL

By Kim on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 07:59 pm:

A month??? UUUGGGHHH! That's crazy! How come there are so many problems with the windows? Is it a company that did this? Maybe check there BBB status?

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 08:17 pm:

We checked them out with the BBB before making a decision to go with them. Trust me, when I get riled up, I get satisfaction, or else! LOL Seriously, they WILL make this right!

I'm sorry that this happened. I hope that they fix it fast.

My dad just had his shower retiled and had new doors installed. In the process of it all, they somehow broke my dad's toilet, so he is getting a free toilet now.

Karen, take photos, immediately, of all the things that are wrong. If your camera doesn't have a dater, take a photo of today's newspaper at the beginning of the roll.

Great idea Ginny!!!

Oh no! We are getting new windows, probably mid-July sometime. It was supposed to take a month to make the windows and 1-2 weeks to get us on the schedule for installation.

We used this company for some other windows already (September 2001) and they an awesome job the first time, with properly fitting windows and cleaning up their mess. I will be so glad to get rid of separate storms and screens.

Both our picture windows in our house were "glued" to the window frame. They spent about 2 hours slowly tapping the window loose. Everytime, it cracked, they taped up the crack. In the end, they were able to move it in one piece to the truck. They will have to do the same to the window on the south side of the living room also. Poor guys. All of the other windows should be easy, since they should be able to pull out the old one and put in the new one.

Hope they fix your problems as quickly as they can.

Dawn, did it *happen* to be Window World????

By Ginny~moderator on Sunday, July 3, 2005 - 08:33 am:

Karen, the Better Business Bureau is, in my opinion, not particularly useful. The members join voluntarily, and the only leverage the BBB has is to respond to inquiries with a list of any complaints they have received about a business. I personally have no use for the BBB.

There is the consumer affairs department in very county... I look on the internet

for consumer affairs county name

example
consumer affairs nassau

in google.

If you don't get satisfaction you can report it to them and they have a strike against them for future business consumers do with them.

You can also call and get how many complaints a company has against them.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, July 3, 2005 - 09:41 am:

Nope. It's a local window and siding company.
