I don't know what they are!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive July 2005: I don't know what they are!!
By Rayanne on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 10:16 pm:

Sometimes I get these white things that secrete from the back of my mouth. They are hard and they stink!! I have to almost make myself throw-up in order to get them out. They make me gag too, so I have to get them out. Does anyone have these and know what they are? I don't know how else to describe them. They kind of look like a piece of hard, chewed up bread.

I thought I was the only one that had those!! LOL I would love to know what they are, they almost look like a chip off of a tooth or something but mushy.. YUCK!!

By Tink on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 10:54 pm:

I get them too and I thought I was the only one! :) I always think they look like bits of cottage cheese, but, like you said, they stink! No idea, but I'm glad to know I'm not a freak.

You're not alone! My doctor called it "tonsil excrement". Ewww! Didn't start until after I had repeated bouts of strep throat. I'm used to cleaning them out now so that it doesn't make me gag any longer. I either use my finger tip or the end of my toothbrush to gently push on my tonsils, clean them out and then rinse with mouth wash. Hope that's not TMI! LOL!

Check this out.
Tonsil stones

Wow!!! I was almost afraid to post this because I thought that I was the only one too.
YAY!!!!!!!! I'm not a freak!!! LOL.

Thanks Trina. So it's actual pieces of my tonsils? EWWWWW!!!

By Tink on Friday, July 1, 2005 - 11:49 pm:

Great site, Happynerdmom! Very clear description and explanation! Thanks.

By My2cuties on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 12:39 am:

Yes I had that too, and the doctor said it was food particles (as said in the site posted). I had to have my tonsils removed because my throat always hurt and my tonsils had holes in them. That was 5 years ago that I had them removed, I was in pain for a couple weeks, but then felt tons better.

Thanks Candis and Happynerdmom.

I also thought I was the only one with these yucky things! Thanks for the info:)

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 11:26 am:

hurl LOL I am clueless, my tonsils have been gone since I was 5! Makes sense, now that I've read the info in the link.

By Marcia on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 11:52 am:

Oh Karen, NICE smiley!!! LOL!!!

I used to get those stinky things, too, but haven't in years. I had chronic tonsilitis/strep, but haven't since I started taking vitamins.

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 12:13 pm:

Yea....kinda tacky, huh Marcia? I just *couldn't* resist. LOL

By Kim on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 07:31 pm:

I get this also and it can be caused from sinus secretion and other things. I can tell when I have them and I also clean them out like Trina does. Personally I wish I could have my tonsils out.

By Rayanne on Saturday, July 2, 2005 - 09:22 pm:

I think that I may call my doctor and see about getting my tonsils out. They really make me sick, and I almost throw-up from them everytime. I try to get them out with my finger or a tooth brush, but it just makes me gag or throw-up.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, July 3, 2005 - 12:50 am:

Ewww. Sounds icky.

By Dana on Sunday, July 3, 2005 - 11:25 am:

I get them if I've been eating popcorn. My Aunt-in-law told me it is pretty much like a a pimple but in the throat. Food has gotten caught in a pore and gets infected. Nasty things and they really give you bad breath.

By Dana on Sunday, July 3, 2005 - 11:29 am:

Forgot to mention that my tonsils were out at 6 months old. And I didn't notice this problem until about 10 yrs ago. (so in my 30's)

By Kim on Sunday, July 3, 2005 - 11:46 am:

Dana, so you have had your tonsils out and still get them? I have huge tonsils, lots of scarring from childhood. My paernts were chain smokers and I had soooo many infections. Lots of extra room to catch junk. What a wonderful topic, huh ladies?

By Babysitbarb on Monday, July 4, 2005 - 02:49 pm:

I haven't had problems with this for a while but, I had the same thing a while back and never knew what it was. It just kinda went a way after a while.
It goes to show you we can talk to everyone on here and usually we find out that someone can help us out with info.

By Mrsheidi on Monday, July 4, 2005 - 10:03 pm:

WOW. I had these in college...thought I was dying or something...it was SO gross!!
I'm so glad I know what these are!!!
