Four chicks

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: Four chicks

We bought four chicks for our four kids today then came home a built a chicken coop! WE know that three are "Rhode Island Reds" or something like that and the fourth is a blond color.

We have been thinking about getting ducks for the backyard but thought that chicks would be more of a farm experience for the kids.

We bought some feed for them. The guy at the store told us to free-feed with this special feed which has meds in it for health and growth. Beyond that we are flying by the seat of our pants, so to speak.

We are making sure the kids are washing their hands after contact and they are hoping they live so we can sell the eggs! JUst like Mrs. Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie! Too funny. :)

If you need chicken advice, I can help. I think Sue3 has chickens. How old are these chicks? If they arent fully feathered they need to be kept warm.

Good luck, it sounds like a fun "project"!

That sounds like fun! We've been tossing the same idea around for a while. Let me know if it's a good experience.
