about 45 miles east of me (Pensacola) in the Destin area. She and a friend were swimming in the Gulf Of Mexico around 11:15 this morning about 100 yeards off shore when she was bitten. She died on the way to the hospital.

This is such an awful story. I was in Destin a few weeks ago and while we were there we saw a shark and if was up in the shallow end, very scary.

We are going to Sanibel Island on July 9 - we were planning to go on the charter boat and snorkel - I have to admit, I'm having 2nd thoughts about it right now. I am not afraid of the water, but I don't remember ever hearing about sharks as much as we have the past few years.

OH there have been shark attacks off of Sanibel. But of course there could be shark attacks off of any beach by any ocean. It's just freak accidents.

But then again, I will only go in the ocean/gulf up to my ankles. Because of sharks.

That poor girl was just having fun on vacation...it is just a terrible tragedy. Just like the one missing in Aruba.
