First ding on my new car

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive August 2005: First ding on my new car

I bought this little car, a 2004 Hyundai Accent, brand new right after Thanksgiving. I've been sort of holding my breath since - and now I can breathe. It was a supermarket parking lot, and she backed into my right front wheel well area, at about 3 miles per hour. She behaved very responsibly, was very upset and apologetic. We exchanged information and, because I'm a legal secretary, I got her insurance information. But we've agreed I will take my car to the dealer and get an estimate on the repairs, so she can decide if she wants to pay cash or take it to her insurance company. Turns out she lives only a few blocks from me.

They say most lowspeed accidents happen in parking lots, and I'm sure they are right. I've been hit 4 times in parking lots.

I'm glad everything went smoothly (or as smooth as possible considering!) I agree about the low speed accidents, I was hit at the commissary a couple years ago. Anyway, glad everything is ok!

Isn't it nice to work with someone who behaves properly? Sorry to hear about your ding, but good for you getting all the info!

Someone once told me, when you get a new car, you should go to it and put a scratch or a ding, so you won't keep worrying about that *first* ding in it. LOL

Sounds like you won't have a problem getting it taken care of though.

Finale - they paid me cash in the amount of the estimate last week, and I picked up my repaired car today. It looks just great, can't tell there was a ding. It was $450, because there was a crease right at the edge of the wheel well and some paint was cracked, so the panel had to be repainted after the ding was pounded out and filled. My son is off Tuesdays/Wednesdays, so he provided transportation to and from work for me while the car was being repaired. So that's done, thank goodness.

Glad it all turned out okay.

As you know DH bought me a new car for Christmas last year. Well about a week after he gave it to me someone in the parking lot at the grocery store put a dent it in. My brand new van, ugh I was so mad. No note or anything!

Oh well, as DH said...it's just a car.

Ginny, I remember your posting when you got the car. Glad everything is okay. Now I have a question for you. Since it's all fixed, have you really gotten your first ding? :)

I think it counts, Ame. I know it's there, even if it was fixed.

Glad to hear you are ok! I hate parking lots...people are crazy drivers and don't pay attention.
I had a friend on my ski team whose mother died in a parking lot. She was backing up out of a parking space and, while putting on her seatbelt, some teenagers bolted around the corner and killed her. My friend NEVER even turned on his car until we all had our seatbelts on. Sad lesson to learn the hard way, and especially when you're a kid!!

Ginny, glad your car is fixed now!

MrsHeidi, that is sooo sad. She was putting on her seatbelt as she was backing out? My seatbelt is on, before I move the car.
