Rain! *gasp* Rain!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: Rain! *gasp* Rain!
By Janet on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 12:10 pm:

We're in a drought and things are getting sooo bad for the farmers (my dh is one)... this morning it got dark and cloudy, and everyone held their breath...then the sun came out. Not a drop nor rumble. So depressing! They say we won't get any rain for the next two weeks. It's been since March since anything significant has fallen, and the corn/beans look so pathetic (not to mention my poor garden)...
It's strange to see TV footage of massive flooding everywhere else (not that I'd want that), or even rain just down or upstate of us (we're central Illinois), while we gasp for water. Send wet vibes our way, will you?

By Debbie on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 12:33 pm:

Rain vibes coming your way, Janet. It is so dry up here also(outside of Chicago). They said we have had just 4 inches of rain since March. My boys play baseball and the fields are nothing but dust. When we get home, we are covered in it. We may get some rain tonight and tommorrow night. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Rain vibes for you Janet!!

By Beth on Thursday, June 23, 2005 - 12:46 pm:

I live an hour south of Chicago and we have the same thing. We actually had some sprinkles about 20 min ago and it was bright and sunny? So weird. Anyway we are going to the splash pad today so if it can just hold off until a little later. Then rain all it once to!

I hope it rains tomorrow. We are very dry, here in WI, too!

By Janet on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 - 03:59 pm:

STILL no rain!!!
It thundered yesterday, but it's all gone. :(

~~~Rain Vibes~~~
Here in NE PA its becoming very dry also, It rained maybe for an hour this morning but everything is so dry it soaked right into the ground very quickly.
No rain here either, Janet. They elevated the water level, to no outside water use. You can't water your lawn, wash your car, etc. Our grass is now a nice toasty brown. Urgggg!
I hope we both get some much needed rain soon!
By Kernkate on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 - 10:11 am:
We are finally getting rain today. Hopefully it will make my brown grass green again!
By Tonya on Wednesday, June 29, 2005 - 10:17 am:
We got rain last night and are suppose to get it again today. We'll see. We water our front grass and flowers but after the water bill comes next month I will probably stop that and pray for rain too.
We've had our share, although it has been a much *drier* June than normal.... and that is relative....LOL
It's been a steady light rain all morning here. I guess that's better than the afternoon downpours that are so common here.
The problem here is, when it rains every afternoon, the grass needs to be cut twice a week, but you need it to dry out enough to cut, so it ends up being a vicious cycle - then you have grass that is so thick and high that the lawnmower won't go through it.
Well it sure did rain here today. It turned black around 11am and it rained so hard and the wind was so bad the building was shaking. It was so black the street lights came on and it looked like night time.
The thunder and lightening was awful. It is over now but still semi-dark and cloudy and is suppose to rain more before the day is up with severe storms again this evening.
