Cat owners: what litter do you use?......

I have three cats, the male cat has had some health problems lately, uti, bladder infection... I usually go between two different litters, tidy cat, and arm and hammer. I also use the clumping litter when I buy those brands. I am thinking of switching to something without perfumes, etc. What type of litter do you use and why? Did your cat adjust to the new litter? Anxiously awaiting any and all comments!!

We use Fresh Step clumping litter. I have tried a few different brands from time to time, just like this one the best. As long as it was all the same texture (clumping) the kittys didn't seem to notice at all.

We use Fresh Step clumping litter also, but it is made with clay. I really like it alot.

We have been using EverClean clumping litter for about 15 yrs. and really like it. Obviously, LOL! I believe they have a nonscented version. I will never go back to traditional cat litter again. Yuck!

trina,

I saw the everclean cat litter at petsmart and noticed it was around 16 dollars or so. So I guess if you've been using it that long it must be worth it!! How does it differ from say tidy cat for instant?

Fresh Step Clumping, or Tidy Cat Multiple Cat. My cats poop more than any other creatures in the world, so I'm still in search of something that control odors better. My cats don't seem to notice any difference when I use a different brand of litter, scented or unscented, but then again they are like that about food as well.

I look to see what clumping litter is on sale and that is the one I buy.

We tried a cheaper brand several years ago. Sorry, I have forgotten the specific brand, but we immediately went back to EverClean because we weren't happy with the other brand. We have a Pals card at PetCo that helps and we use whatever discounts and/or coupons available. It's about $15 for a 25 lb. box, which lasts about a month for us. We currently have two cats.

We use scoop away fresh scent. It has a pleasant smell without the perfumy smell and clumps up nice. My three cats had no problem switching to this brand

Fresh Step Crystals! Worth every penny! No clay, no dust, no clumps! Just scoop out the poop and it's like a fresh litter box! I change the box once every three to four weeks.

We use Tidycat, and watch for sales. But, cats are strange creatures, and very picky. I suggest whatever brand you try first, get a small container. If the cat doesn't like it you don't have a big investment and can try a small container of another brand. Some cats object strongly to the crystals, others don't like the litter that has a deoderizer or perfume in it, some cats object to litter which is, in the cat's opinion, too dusty. But yes, clumping litter is well worth it - I wouldn't use anything else. Caution - don't believe it if the package says the litter is flushable. That will only lead to plumbing problems eventually.

When we had 7 cats I kept a small bucket with a tight-fitting lid next to the cat boxes (3 boxes, set in a very large plastic bin - the bin was sold at Target as something you put under your car when you are changing oil). I put a double plastic grocery bag in the bucket and cleaned the boxes 2-3 times a day, throwing out the bag at the end of the day. The bucket kept any odors from spreading. Visitors were very surprised to see that we had so many cats and no odors. (I am sorry to say that all of the cats, which were my mom's, have since died, and now I am down to one cat, my son's.)

And, I suggest that you put the cat box on a rug that you can either vacuum or shake out every couple of days. No matter what litter you use, some will cling to the cats paws and get dropped on the floor - a rug with some nap (like a doormat) will brush the litter off the cat's paws and keep it from being spread throughout the house.
