Gardening question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: Gardening question
By Bellajoe on Wednesday, June 15, 2005 - 02:16 pm:

I have mint in my yard and I can't seem to get rid of it. It is now going under the fence into my neighbor's yard! I have not tried any sprays because according to the gardening sights i have looked at, you can't kill it with a spray.

Has anyone here successfully killed their mint plants?

No, GL though, I would just cut it down as much as you can and just keep cutting it in the hopes some day you will kill it for good. Maybe crossbow would kill it, I havent heard that you cant kill it w/ spray.

round up will kill it. Or try pulling the plant out as you see them coming up.

Try Roundup, but be careful, because you don't want children or pets to get around it. Mint is nice, but terribly, terribly invasive. My mom wanted mint for her herb garden, so I took a 5 gallon plastic paint bucket, cut the bottom off, dug a hole with the top of the bucket rim about 6 inches above ground, and planted the mint in that. It stayed pretty well confined. That's the only way I would plant mint, or in free-standing planters.
