Ds had his spot removed

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: Ds had his spot removed

Zach had his big nevus removed yesterday. He was as good as gold yesterday at the surgeon, complied w/ the dr and anesthesiologist, did everything just great. They intubated him and he was in surgery for 1 1/2 hours. Came out from anesthesia great. They were able to get the whole birthmark instead of doing it in two surgeries. He threw up on the way home :( took a 4 hour nap and was up and around almost like usual. He has been using his arm like usual. He has been great today and I only gave him pain meds last night b4 bed because I wanted to make sure he was going to get some sleep. He told me that he is getting grown up so that he shouldnt have a spot anymore. I thought this was pretty clever reasoning. He is taking a nap right now.

So why am I posting? Well first of all just wanted to let you all know he is doing OK. Second to tell you about the dressing change. With him doing so well I guess I fooled myself about what it would look like under there. I am not a sqeamish person, and honestly the incision isnt icky or anything. We sat on the couch and I removed the dressing being all business like and reassuring but all that was going through my mind was OMG!!!! There must be at least 30 stitches, the incision is over 4 inches long, it starts from where the seam of a tanktop would be on his shoulder and ends past his wing bone. I knew what we were in for, the birthmark was bigger than a silver dollar, but I guess I just didnt KNOW. Whew, wow, just venting a bit...

I'm glad he's doing well!! As far as the incision, is it possible it looks bigger because of swelling?? I know my c-section scar is much smaller than the original incision, but I don't have any other surgery experience. Hugs to you both!!

Glad to hear Zach is doing so well! After he gets the stitches out try using cocoa butter on the incision, it will make it heal better and be less noticeable. I used it my my 3 c-setions and it made a big difference.

I bet you're glad that's over with. Glad to hear he's doing well. My DS has a coffee birthmark on his shoulder blade. We've been keeping an eye on it but our ped. isn't concerned.
