My little one has gas and I don't really know what to do for her, she is miserable. Are Mylacon Drops okay to give her at 3 weeks? Thanks for any help..

I give her a passy and rock her for now but she is suffering and no one is getting any sleep.

What i found was the best thing to do is lay her on your lap and make her legs "run". This motion really helps get things moving :) We always talked and kind of played while doing it, all my kids found it soothing.

Mylicon is fine for her now. Simethicone isn't absorbed by their bodies, it just works on the gas bubbles. Try laying her across your lap and rubbing her back. That was the only thing that helped my son. The pressure on her tummy may help.

Ovol Drops and Gripe Water

Taylor had the same thing...give her 1/4 tsp of Mylanta. Just the regular flavor, give it to her before she eats or after if you forget. It worked so well for Taylor! The Mylacon didn't work well for Taylor that is why her doctor told us to use Mylanta.
That should work....let me know if it helps her.

Are you sure it's gas? Could be GERD (reflux). More info and symptoms here:
The GERD Word
DD had it as an infant.

Have you eaten any gassy or spicey foods? It can effect your milk and make the baby gassy and\or fussy. Some babies don't do well breastfeeding if the mother eats/drinks dairy items. Those same babies wouldn't do well on regular formula due to the cow milk protein. That was another issue with DD.

If it's gas, then get the store brand gas relief drops if you can find them. My walmart just stopped carrying them, so I had to order them online - generic simethicone drops.
If it's not gas then check out the GERD issue. BEST for GERD other than a prescription is Gaviscon. Gaviscon sits on top of the stomach acid.
Believe me, after two reflux babies, I know my stuff.
Good Luck!

Ame I wish I would have known about Gaviscon! I had 2 with GERD too.
A warm wash cloth added to all the advice above helps with gas as well.

Infant massage is helpful too. I'm sure you can find some links on line. In breif here is what I do for tummy problems.

Put about a dime size of olive oil or safflower (sp?) oil in your hand and rub together. Like a steam boat paddle, move the skinny side of your hand (pinky side) from just under the ribs to the bottom of the tummy, just under the diaper line. The baby is lying down with his/her feet closest to you. Use a good amount of pressure so that you can see the tummy denting inwards.

Then I do the "I love you" motion. You will be forming the letters *I* *L* *U*....baby in same possition, feet closest to you. Say the words nice and slow "I" and take the pinky edge of your hand and rub from just under rib to diaper line, just like the boat paddle move above. Then "Love" and make the letter *L* as if it is lying on its side. With the flat of your fingers starting on the right side of the baby (your left) running below the rib area to the opposite side. Then complete the L shape by bringing your hand down the baby's left side (your right). End w/ by saying "YOU" making and upside down *U* starting at baby's tummy base on the right side (your left side) and running upward towards ribs and back down baby's left side (again your right side.) You are making the shape of a U in an upside down position..

After I do those moves, I then take both legs and push his/her knees into the tummy and push downward and give some slight bounces. Usually, the gas will escape with that. Both DD and DS liked the leg thing best. DD at age 7 still asks me to do that when she has intestinal gas...the I Love You and the leg push.

When you are rubbing the tummy, just make sure you rub in a clockwise direction. This is the direction the bowels work and you don't want to be pushing stuff back up the wrong way.

Randy's ped. gastro. had me use it after each feeding. It works fast!
As far as the simethicone - it is harmless and wonderful. All it does is break up gas bubbles in the belly. It is not absorbed into the bloodstream. It is also quick!
