High School Graduation Gifts???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: High School Graduation Gifts???

We have already been invited to 8 parties for graduation. First one being today. Most of the parties are for kids of our friends or people DH and I work with. What do you feel is an appropriate amount to give in a card for these parties?

Geez, with 8 of them, it would have to be something smaller, IMO. LOL Depends on what you can afford. Anywhere from $10 up. $10 may sound cheap, but with 8, that's already $80. $20 each would be $160 - it adds up quickly.

I guess my cousin thinks I'm cheap, her oldest DD just graduated from community college, and all I sent her was $30, but we have so many expenses right now, $30 was all that was in my budget.

$10 Staples or Office Depot gift card so they can buy school supplies...says you went out of your way, but still is within your budget! And, you know it's going to be spent on *school* things!

Or...I always liked to give a small stapler, a portable hamper (you can get those for cheap at walmart), or some stationary for girls with some stamps. Target has the kind with their initial in the middle that are cute. For boys, if you know them real well, I like to give them clothes...Lord knows boys have a hard time picking out clothes that look good.

I *really* shy away from giving cash. Most teenagers spend it even before they go to college (mostly on music and food) and they remember the gifts more because every time they use them, they might think of your kindness and the time they had at graduation! They need to be reminded that they worked very hard for something and that hard work is rewarded!

I don't know.... Depends on what you can afford.

$30 or less if you can't afford that. Teenagers like money I think so I like to give them alittle pocket money.

Our local CVS actually has gift cards you can buy for restaurants, etc., but I think they are like $25 each.

I have given one of those to a teenager as a gift, because kids love to go out to eat in a group.

I think I will go with $25, hope it doesn't look cheap. Her Dad is a friend and I really don't know the graduate.
