Is summer over yet?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive June 2005: Is summer over yet?
By Bellajoe on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - 05:01 pm:

Oh my gosh, now i know why parents are always so happy when school starts again. My ds's last day of school was last week and my dd's was today and I am already wishing school was back in session! My ds is such the pain in the butt yesterday and today. He is 4 and makes everything a chore lately, nothing is fun with him anymore. Plus i have pms so we are so not getting along lately. GRRRR! Anything i ask him to do is a big "NO" and then he sticks out his tongue. I wish i could just rip it out of his mouth! But then we would have bigger problems, wouldn't we?? :) I just want to scream!!!! AHHHH!

O.k., i just needed to do a little venting. Thanks for listening!

Now i have to go find my Aerosmith CD, that other post got me in the mood for it! :)

Dream On, Dream On, Dream until your dreams come true..............:)

Wow, it's going to be a loooooooong summer if you feel that way already! LOL! I've learned the key is to keep the kids BUSY. Mine don't get out of school until June 27th but they're already signed up for swimming lessons. We spend lots of days at the pool/park where many of their school friends also hang out. We have two vacations planned - one week visiting my parents in VA who have a pool and one week in a cottage on a lake in NH. We also have a tentative camping trip with my best friend and her two kids in the works. Since my kids go back to school the last week in August, that about covers it.

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - 11:00 pm:

yes, i plan to keep busy. Their swimming lessons start in July. I have them signed up for a few camps at the Little Gym and we plan to go to the zoo, park and beach. We also have a tentative plan to go to Niagara Falls with some friends sometime this summer and also have a family reunion planned. I just need to get creative in what to do in the back yard to! I hate to always be on the go.

I just hope my ds starts behaving soon.

By Kate on Wednesday, June 1, 2005 - 11:22 pm:

Good luck Bellajoe....I think things get better after a week or two when the vacation becomes routine. Right now everything is out of sync.

Trina, your kids are in school a LOT!! I've never heard of going THAT late in June AND starting in August!!!! Wow! Do you get extra long vacations during the year?? We get Columbus Day, Veterans Day, two days at Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve until Janurary 2, one week in February and one week in April, Memorial Day, Martin Luther King day, and I think that's all... But around here we start AFTER Labor Day and end around June 20 for most schools.

My kids aren't even out of school yet and it's finally getting warm, here by Lake Michigan and you're already wishing summer was over? Yikes!

Kids get out June 10th. Sarah goes on her mission trip from June 11th to June 19th. Emily goes to horse camp June 19th to June 25th.

Our June is going to FLY by!

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 05:33 am:

Wow Trina, *our* summer vacation would be nearly half over by then! Ours get out the end of May, certainly by June 1, and start back to school early to mid August!

Guess that's the difference between living in the south and living in the north. DH's sister lives in NJ and her DD gets out June 20.

By Tonya on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 07:59 am:

Mine gets out on June 16th and starts back the Tuesday after Labor Day in Sept.

I remember seeing somewhere that Trina's are in longer because of make-up snow days. (A few others too.)

Good luck ladies. You complain but I would love to stay home for the summer with my kids instead of working FT.

By Bellajoe on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 08:11 am:

I think the people who have school till mid June have that Week off in February. Am I wrong?

We get out the first week of June and go back the last week of August.

I hope once they get used to the summertime routine, things will get better around here.

By Kernkate on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 08:20 am:

We get out on June 16th because of snow days, and don't have any week long breaks during the school year, unless its for snow.
I am actually looking forward to Brett getting out for the summer. See if I say that a week a two after he is out:) We keep busy so it's not to bad.

By Yjja123 on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 09:27 am:

I am just happy it is "summer". I homeschool so keeping kids occupied daily is routine here. I am enjoying not schooling but having fun swimming, and just plain relaxing with the kids. We have been on break for two weeks so far. We will start again in September.
The school kids here get out the end of this week and go back the 1st week in August. The year has been extended at public schools to allow more time to study for FCAT.

I am pretty sure that in all of the US kids attend school for about 180 days. When you start and finish is all up to the district, but you have to get those days in. In our school district we start early, we got out the end of may. But we get a week at thanksgiving, a little over 2 weeks at christmas and some various other days off (our spring break is in march).

By Conni on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 09:42 am:

Well, I can sympathize with you. I dont wish Summer was over- but I do have a 5yo that talks NON STOP. I just sent him back to bed at 7:45 am. He talked for 45 min and all I wanted to do was sit and catch up on my 80 emails, sip my coffee and pick up the house all while having some peace and quiet. I guess I was hoping for too much. lol He did go back to bed tho. :) We went to a concert last night and he was up LATE, I cant believe he didnt sleep in. *rolling my eyes*...

My boys last day was Tuesday. They got home from school and the neighbor and I loaded up the mini vans and took them all to Branson, MO. We stayed in her condo, swam until late and hung out in the hot tub. Got up early went to the gym on the properties, then went to Silver Dollar City theme park. I drove home in time to go to concert (brad paisley, sara evans, will smith) last night. So, they havent had much time to get on my nerves yet. Today and tomorrow we are doing a major cleaning upstairs and swimming. Another concert tonight (shakira, jesse mcCartney (sp?), and JIMMY BUFFET!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Saturday we go to Tulsa to sis/bil's house, then back home to go to lake until Monday, Swim lessons start next week for 5 yo, we go to Texas end of June to visit Great Grandparents again with my other sis and her ds... July my older kids go to their Dad's for the month and I actually DREAD that. I miss them and they usually are calling within a week because they are so bored and homesick. :( That also means its me and the nonstop talker for a month, alone, just me and him, all by ourselves, talk talk talking about nothing. May need tranquilizers to endure it. LOL

Anyway, I rambled on, but my point is in general I LOVE my kids being home. But my youngest has been talking non-stop (many times very rudely and has started burping and tooting rudely) since he was 4 and I am just waiting for it to pass and then we'll move into a new phase I am sure. I can sympathize with you! I am always saying go get your preschool workbook, go get your sidewalk chalk, go ride your bike, lets go swim, go build me a boat with the lego's, go pick up your room, ALL DAYYYYY LOOONNGGG. I am so tired at night- you would think I had a
newborn somedays. lol

Today will be a great day!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 11:17 am:

We used to get out the first week in June and go back the last week in August. Then the tourism industry decided they wanted their summer help through Labor Day, so now we start the day after Labor Day and get out the second week in June. I was perfectly happy with the schedule the way it was, but no one asked my opinion.

I'm looking forward to not having to be up at 6am everyday! After school is out, I will only have to be up that early, if I have to work.

By Colette on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 11:41 am:

We get out on the 20th. We get a week or so at Christmas (depending on when Christmas is), a week in Feb, a week in April, and 5 snow days. If we hadn't used the snow days our last day would have been the 15th. We start the very last week of August. We used to start the Wed after labor day, but that has changed. I can't wait for vacation!

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, June 2, 2005 - 12:39 pm:

Kate, We usually get out mid June but used up all our snow days and then some so we have to make them up. We also started later this year due to construction projects within the school system. 180 days regardless.
