Who eats a lot of fruit???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive May 2005: Who eats a lot of fruit???

I have gone crazy for fruit this week. Today I bought:

Clamshell strawberries
Peaches
Bananas
White Grapes
Apples
A watermelon
and some mutant type of a canteloupe LOL

Also bought 3 different kinds of lettuce and some grape tomatoes, and stuff to make cole slaw and potato salad with.

Some of this stuff I got because *I* like it, some because DH likes it, and some because it's on a list of *approved* foods for Jen.

I cannot STAND the taste of bananas and I am trying to force myself to eat them for the food value they have.

Once it gets hot - and it is HOT here now - I don't like to eat heavy stuff for dinner, I'd rather have fruit and salad, or pasta or potato salad.

We eat a lot of fruit here each summer. Both of my dd's love fruit and I'm with you on the easy light dinners in the heat. I'll often just make sandwiches for all of us.

Karen, can you put the bananas in a smoothie for breakfast? If you freeze them, you don't need ice and other fruits might cover the flavor somewhat.

I love fruit, I bought yesterday:

Blueberries Fresh & Frozen
Bananas

Raspberries
Watermelon
Strawberries Fresh & Frozen
BC Yellow Cherries - My favourite
Red Seedless Grapes
Wanted to buy Kiwis, but you could only get them buy the bag

Lots of fruit here! The kids and I love fresh fruit, all kinds. I alternate what I buy each week depending on specials and for variety. We eat lots of fresh veggies, too.

I wanted to get kiwis today, but the ones at the store looked icky. I LOVE raspberries! They are my all time favorite! When I go to Sam's this weekend, I'll get a pineapple or two. They have the Dole extra sweet ones. YUMMMMM!!!

Cori, how do you make a smoothie????

By Tink on Friday, May 27, 2005 - 09:58 pm:

Karen, I just dump some yogurt or tofu into a blender with some OJ concentrate and any fruit combos that sound good. I love peach and pineapple. I can only eat barely ripe bananas (I hate truly ripe ones or any kind of banana flavoring) but I can dump a frozen one and it doesn't bother me at all. I also love a bunch of berries mixed together, blueberries, strawberries and blackberries. Unlike you, I'm not a raspberry fan. LOL You can use frozen fruit or ice to make it really cold and a little slushy. Easy on-the-go breakfast. I dump mine into a travel mug and drink breakfast as I take the kids to school.

We eat lots of fruit year 'round, whenever we can get the good stuff. Fruit is a snack for me, although dh doesn't eat nearly as much as I do. (I don't think he ever had a fruit or vegetable in his home growing up, literally.)

Me! Especially in the Summer. I'm just like you and opt for a salad instead of cooking. (Unless DH grills of course!) I can't wait for the good cherries to come into season. That's what I'm craving!

I also keep veggies cut up for DD. Although, her new favorite is the whole large carrots! Oh, and salad with NO dressing. She puts salt and pepper on top. That's my kid! LOL!

Karen, add a banana to a smoothy. I normally like bananas, but eat them rarely. I like them only when they are very firm. Right now, I could not stomach them AT all. LOL!

I love fruit. Last summer, I switched out my morning coffee for a fruit smoothie with a little whey protein from GNC and I noticed that I had a lot more "get up and go" and I lost a few pounds as well.

Bananas are my all time favorite, next to strawberries and blueberries. I'll eat almost any fruit.
