Does your spouse travel?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive May 2005: Does your spouse travel?

Mine does, frequently, however it's never really affected Matt before. We have had a rather difficult week. DH left on Monday and won't be home until Friday.

Matthew is a very even tempered, happy kid who rarely cries. This week with the expection of Monday he has had 3 meltdowns a day.

I was talking with a friend today who has an older child about 12 years, she mentioned that her DH is out of town this week and her DD needs more hugs and cuddles this week cause she misses her daddy.

I also watched Extreme Makerover Home Edition this week. It was about a family that had lost a young mother of 3 boys (all under the age of 4) to cancer. The youngest boy at the time of the show was 18 months, so I'm guessing but he probably lost his mom at 15 months. I wondered if he missed her or even realized that she was gone.

I was thinking today "Gee, Matt seems fine without his daddy around, would he even miss me if something happened?" He just always so good, people often say to me "Is he always this good?"

Anyway after some further thought and my discussion with my friend I'm inclined to believe that my poochie is missing his daddy and is starting to become more aware of how important we are in his life.

When your spouse travels and is away from home, do you notice a difference with your munchkins?

Absolutely! My dh travels and the boys really have separation anxiety when he is gone. He started traveling two years ago and it was much worse when it was a new thing for him.

Since this has been going on for a couple of years, we have all gotten more used to it, but, it still isn't easy.

My dh travels occasionally. He actually left early this morning and will be back on Friday. I don't usually see a difference in the kids. But his trips are typically just a few days here and there and their schedules remain unchanged.

YES! My DD talks about DH non-stop when he is gone. He is away right now and we are meeting him in Rhode Island on Saturday. She keeps saying "Where is Daddy again? I miss Dad! I want to talk to Dad!" I let her call him whenever she wants and that seems to help. She's a Daddy's girl though.:)
