We had to put our dog down

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive May 2005: We had to put our dog down

Sorry I have not been posting.
Its been a bad month.
Boots my 12 year old Border Collie
was put down on Tuesday morning.
his leg was so bad that he was unable to walk.
We found out he had the beginning stages of
kidney failure and when they have kidney failure
they can not take any meds for the leg pain
because it makes the kidney failure progress
very fast. Me, my husband and 11 year old son
were with him till the end. My son has said he wanted to stay with him till the end so I let him.
We all cried so much and I kept Ryan home from school that day and he cried all day. Him and Boots grew up together. Its so weird in the house without him. I am sooo glad we got Holly our Shih Tzu puppy 2 months ago. She will never take the place of Boots but it did make it a bit easier
on the kids to at least have her to come home to.
Well I am tearing up. he was such a huge part of our family as you pet owners know.
Hug your pet today. Its a shame they can't live longer.

I am so sorry that you've lost your friend and companion. Prayers for you and your family. As many times as I've had to put down a beloved pet, it's never gotten any easier. Hugs to all of you.

Major ((((HUGS)))) It's so hard to lose a beloved family pet. We lost a very special kitty last year to liver cancer. I still miss her. :( Have you checked out PetLoss.com?

I've grown up with Border Collies. Maybe that's why I think they are a really special breed of dog. I'm so sorry that you'll be missing Boots. It is a shame that they can't live just as long as we do.

By Trisa on Thursday, May 12, 2005 - 05:05 pm:

Yes Borders are a great dog!

Deepest condolences and a big (((HUG))) to you and your family. It is so sad. I agree...I wish that they could live longer. I, too, have had to hold beloved pets in my arms while they go to their Creator. It never gets easy.

Your son is a very brave and loving boy to stay with his dear friend to the end.
