Mother's Day Revelations

Mother's Day Revelations

I was watching my little poochie eat his lunch today. He eagerly pushed a huge piece of broccoli into his mouth. It amazes me that he can feed himself and that I am able to provide the absolute best for him. I thought about his lunch, homemade meatballs, brown rice, broccoli, cauliflower, milk and some pears for dessert. I thought "Wow great lunch", then I noticed his expensive Italian high chair, his Roots overalls and his nice new Roobez.

My thoughts drifted on and I wondered why are we so lucky, how come we were born here? My fears and concerns over diaper changes, car seats, to give juice or not to, how much milk is enough or too much, sugar in soya milk, getting a full nights sleep, when do we start brushing his teeth, educational toys, play groups, swimming lessons, too much t.v., van, car, SUV, quality time with daddy, cry it out or rock him to sleep, another baby - how will I manage and on and on and on ... Today all this seems so trivial.

Why are we so lucky? What about all those moms out there in the world who worry about how they are going to feed their kids today, all the moms in Africa who are dying of AIDS, all the little munchkins left behind. What about the death squads in Brazil that kill the street kids, the children in India that work daily in the garbage dumps and sweat shops, little girls sold into the sex trade, and baby girl in China that I so badly want to bring home, if only DH has a good year ... well maybe someday. Yet look at all we have and we worry and we complain and we are envious. Dr. Phil, Oprah, the right to live, the right to die, the new Pope, cel phones, housework. This is our lives. I'm not writing this to criticize or trivialize what we all go through from day to day. I just had to stop for a moment today and think about the world we live in, not just my house, my neighbourhood, my community, my city, my country, but the whole wide world and all the moms out there who have greater struggles. Think of them this Mother's Day.

You are so right, Heaven, and it's good to stop and remember every once in a while how truly BLESSED we are.

I have thought about that before, too. Especially when I have gone to Honduras on mission trips. I love my kids and right now dd who is 4 is pretty much the center of my life since the boys are pretty much off on their own. I love her and want to provide so much to her and pretty much do like you so eloquently put it above. Then I go to Honduras into some of the outlying areas that are so deperately poor. They love their babies just like I do, but...I don't know what to say. So many young mothers just look weary and defeated in their eyes. They have so little, sometimes barely enough to eat. I sent so many little girl outfits down there when I went. And alot of times the one outfit we gave to each person was the only outfit that child possesses. They would bring babies in only wearing panties or a cloth diaper to get the one outfit. I come home and look at my home and family and wonder why we should be so blessed. I just give my thanks to my Lord. I don't understand but I need to try to be a better steward of what I do have and not take it for granted.

Debbie, I would love to put a package together to send to Honduras, could you tell me how?
