I just got my 1st cell phone, I am behind the times!!! DS had one before me:)
Do all of you use cell phones?
I got a Nextel. DH has one from work and he likes the Direct Connect on it.
I got to catch up on all these things:)

I have one, but never use it! It's just for emergencies. I think it's wierd to see people in resturants, groceries stores and in cars talking on phones! I've even heard people in public washrooms stalls talking on the phone, I think thats totally gross. What did we do before they were around? And why do people feel that they have to shout when talking on a cell phone?

By Missmudd on Thursday, May 5, 2005 - 11:35 am:

I dont use my phone much either, just for emergency. I call it Dan's phone(my 11yo) because he is the only one that calls it :) I just use a tracfone, i think I may have to buy a new phone soon though because I have had it for 3 years now and it doesnt vibrate all the time and the cover on it is getting hard to open and I am afraid to force it open. I only spend about $15 a month because I hardly every use my minutes.

My dh on the other hand is a different story. He has a cell for wrk. He obsesses about the rotten thing. I dont know how many times he checks it to make sure he hasnt missed messages, to make sure it is on, to make sure he has bars, UGH! And it makes his days off not a day off at all because he continues to take calls on the darn thing. So I hate my husbands phone. And yes I know he should just turn it off but that really isnt an option, so I hate his job too.

I've had once since I was 18. I use it a lot because it's more cost effective for long distance calling. DH and I also have mobile-to-mobile so we talk for free. We use Cingular. I like having a cell phone but for the few weeks I didn't have one because mine broke, I didn't feel lost or not complete without one. I actually liked it because I didn't feel like people could track me down at every minute of the day.

I got one 2 years ago when my *baby* went to college. LOL.

We use Southern Linc because they have like the radio things.

We've had a bunch of them. LOL DH and I first used Alltel many years ago, but their service leaves a lot to be desired and the number of dropped calls were ridiculous.

We used Nextel at work for a few years, but the direct connect didn't work half the time and it got to the point where the service was out probably at least 25% of the time so we cancelled and went with Sprint.

Jen had Nextel also and cancelled for the same reasons.

She and Jeff are with Verizon and Cingular, I believe.

With Sprint, we have the direct connect for use at work, and all Sprint-to-Sprint calls, no matter who or where, do not go against your minutes. Also, after 7 PM daily, and on weekends we have unlimited calls that do not go against your minutes. I had cancelled my Alltel phone a while back when I was given the company cell phone, which I can use personally also, and DH just did the same, and has Sprint.

I've had a Nextel for about 4 years now. I dont use it often, but it is great in emergencies or when the school needs to get a hold of me and I'm not home.

Direct Connect certainly has its advantages! I think I use that feature more than the actual phone. One thing, which you may already be aware of, is too alert someone and wait for them to respond before talking to them. Many times my pocketbook will start "talking" at the most inopportune times and I've gotten a few looks. :) Enjoy!

I got one when dd started preschool. I just wanted to know that no matter where I was, the school could reach me if they needed to. I only turn mine on if I leave the house and only a few people even have my number. Dh is the one that calls me the most.

By Jann on Thursday, May 5, 2005 - 11:57 am:

I have had one for 13 years (that sucker is bigger than my home phone land line! LOL) I don't talk on it in restaurants unless it's one of my kids or my dh needing me..no just visiting. But I use mine all the time, especially in the car. I have a wonderful handsfree headset that I use (wouldn't drive on the phone without it). My dh uses his all the time too. Heck, our middle school and high school publishes the cell numbers in the school directory. Hardly anyone I know is ever home, much easier to reach them on their cell. I love having one for my ds cause I can reach him whenever I want to. But, we have a rule that you have to call from a landline whenever he is changing places. My dd is dying to have one, but so far, I can always reach her when I need to so she doesn't get one. (cell phones are for my convenience not theirs! LOL)

LOL Sunny I hear what you are saying about the DC it took me a few times to catch on to that...I really like the idea of it for the kids to with DS at college he can reach me all the time and for the kids school also.

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, May 5, 2005 - 12:28 pm:

I've had one since before DS was born, and he's 8.5. LOL! We just got new phones last week with a different carrier that has better coverage in our area (Verizon). We only use them when necessary, not for just chit chat, but they sure do come in handy!

By Debbie on Thursday, May 5, 2005 - 12:43 pm:

I have one. I don't use it much. I have it so the school can contact me if needed. Dh is sometimes hard to reach and we don't have family here, so I want to make sure the school can get in touch with me. I also like having it incase I get a flat or break down.

Dh has one for work and he drives me nuts with it. It also has email. Whenever he gets an email it beeps, so whenever he is around all I hear is beeping!

By My2cuties on Thursday, May 5, 2005 - 12:49 pm:

Dh and I both have cell phones. We are free mobile to mobile. We text message alot though. In the middle of the night when he is gone and I don't know if he is sleeping or driving I will text him and he will call me or text me back if he is awake. We use them when we need them, not for just an emergency. I can't leave home without it. LOL It comes in very handy especially when I send DH to the store and forget to tell him something to pick up.:)

I've had cell service for about 15 years. Couldn't live without it!
Now my husband has a Blackberry! So cool! I will trade my camera phone for one any day!

We have had cell service for about 3-1/2 years. We each have one now, but mine is mostly used for emergencies and my daughter uses it to get rides home from school events. We have US Cellular now, but had started out with Cingular.

By Babysitbarb on Friday, May 6, 2005 - 03:50 pm:

I have had one for about 3 1/2 years. I don't use mine a whole lot because I have Verizon and the reception in our area stinks. I still like having one. I have until Sept. before my contract runs out and I will be switching carriers.
My 16 year old got one for christmas because she's out and gone alot and drives now so I like to be able to be in touch with her. We got her a trac one just for now because I didn't want to restart my contract with Verizon and add a buddy phone. She actually uses mine if she is with me because hers uses her minutes so fast and I have lots of minutes and don't use many of them.
