Digital Camera Help!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive May 2005: Digital Camera Help!
By Marcia on Wednesday, May 4, 2005 - 11:58 pm:

Well, it appears I've fried my digital from excessive use!! I'm going to buy another one within the next few days, and want some opinions. I want a huge zoom, at least 4mp, and a price that won't kill me. So far it seems to be narrowed down to an HP, a FUJI and a KODAK. Does anyone have anything good or bad to say about any of these name brands? My Fuji has bee wonderful, but I think it would cost more to fix than it's worth at this point.
Thanks for any ideas!

I have loved my old Fuji (FinePix 2600, 2 mp) and DH just bought me a new one (Fujifilm FinePix A340) for Mother's Day. Haven't had the chance to get it up and running yet. 4 mp, 3x Optical Zoom, $200 - a point and shoot camera perfect for ME. :) I'm no photo buff but it will suit my purposes well.

I have owned a Kodak and I know several who own them. While they take nice pictures, the docking station and software is a PITB.

I have owned 2 Sony's, one of which I kept, and I now own a Canon digital SLR.

Pam has several digitals, as does Brandy. They can probably comment.

I have a Koday easyshare and if you have a computer that reads the cards it is fine that's how i always do mine from the cards? If not i guess i probably wouldn't get that one just for the fact Karen said it was a pitb because i've personally never used the docking station = ) ..I also have a hp which is like 2.11 mp i think and it took good pics for me = ) you can go to dpreview.com for some recommendations and to compare different cameras good luck = ) let us know what you decided = )

I do have a card reader, and the one I'm looking at has the dock as an option, so I won't get it.
I want something with a big zoom, and the 3 I'm looking at have 10x zoom and at least 4mp. I think the SLR lenses will be out of my $$ range, but I'll check them out.

Marcia what i was saying is on the docking station one if you do have a card reader you should be okay = ) ..you just the put the card into your computer and you don't have to even use the docking station = ) ..I think the digital slr all run around at least $800-$1,000+ depending on what one you get and if you get it with the kit lense or not..

I have had a kodak and after it died from to many pics being taken (and i wanted a zoom) I recently bought a HP 935 photosmart and from my experience with both I now prefer the kodak.

Kodak is much easier to use in my opinion and not as finicky as my HP has been. My next one will be a kodak for sure.

Good luck and have fun, I LOVE taking pics!

We have two Canons, one is a Powershot G3 and the other one is an A75. The A75 is only 3 mp, but still takes nice pictures. The Powershot is nicer, but DH likes to use that one for work, since it's smaller than the big Canon 1d's that he has for work.

They don't even make my cameras anymore. They are on to bigger and better things, now! LOL!

We have a kodak easyshare, 5mp that we love. We have an HP photosmart printer, so we have always printed or put pix on the computer with the card through the printer. I've never uploaded them from the camera itself...too much work! We love our kodak though and if/when this one dies, we'll definitely get another kodak.

Watch it on the zoom function, you want a big OPTICAL zoom. The digital zoom is nice and you can get up close, but when you go to print pictures you can really pick out the digital zoomed pics. Get as big as optical zoom as you can afford.

I bought the Kodak dx 6490, and it has a 10x optical zoom and 4mp. I've just played around with it a bit, and so far it seems great! I have 30 days to decide if I want to keep it or not, so I'm going to be picture crazy in those 30 days!!
Thanks for all of the help!
