My BABIES are here!

...chicks that is!

We have been incubating chick eggs in my kindergarten class for the past 21 days. They started hatching today.

We had some problems with the temp the second day (got up to 45C) so I was sure I cooked them all. So far we have 3 out and 1 more on the way. I'm so excited. I can't wait until tomorrow when the kids see them.

I'm hoping we have some late ones so the kids can witness the hatching process.

Wow, that is exciting, I never got the nerve to hatch from eggs. Congrates on your new babies

How exciting...you will have to post a picture of your new babies. :)

Thanks...I will try to remember to take my digital camera to school tomorrow.

Oh how precious. My girls love baby chicks! I am sure your class is going to be sooo excited to see them! :)

I remember my fourth grade teacher did that with the class. It left such an impression on me. Those kids will never forget. She put a dab of different colored food coloring on each of their foreheads so we could tell them apart.

What are you planning on doing with the chickens when they get bigger?

By Paulas on Sunday, May 1, 2005 - 11:16 pm:

We give them back to the farmer in about a week. I like the food coloring idea. Maybe I'll do that too.

So much fun. I saw this at ds school. I wanted to stay in the class and play with the chicks.

My dd's class did that last year in 3rd grade. I remember how exciting it was for everyone in the class. Parents too! I even went in to see them after the hatching began!

I guess it's common sense, but don't use red, because the others will peck it to death.

We were at the zoo once, and they had eggs in a building, but close to a window, so you could watch them hatch. We stayed long enough to watch one completely hatch out! It was cool!
