Beyond the requested hamburgers and hotdogs...what do I serve?
It needs to be both kid friendly and adult friendly. It can't be too fussy as I need to be able to keep watch on pool and kids. John will be in charge of the bbq (cooking).
I appreciate ANY ideas!
Yvonne

Corn on the cob
BBQ beans
pasta salad, pea salad, or 7-layer salad
chips & dip
veggie &/or fruit tray
jello salad

I would make it easy and get a fruit/veggie tray from the store or Costco/Sams if you belong.
Capri sun is an easy drink for the children. They can open them and there is nothing to pour.
Salsa and chips, ranch/french onion dip and chips...If I think of more I will post :)

how do I keep dip safe? Living in Florida I worry about spoiled food.

How long is the party going to last? You could always put it on ice.

By Jann on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 - 07:45 pm:

I would just make it easy. The hamburger/hot dogs, chips and drinks. How many adults are you really thinking you are feeding? Maybe a pasta salad made with a vingerette dressing in addition for the adults.

Ditto Jann...:) Plus you will have the cake/ice cream (or whatever you are serving). I am sure thats plenty.

Chocolate covered strawberries sound good (i am obsessed with them right now!). :)

We have started doing tubs with iced down canned drinks. I get *real* tired of picking up the little wrappers and straws from the boxed drinks, etc... Makes clean up so much easier.

Have you used your pool already??

By Yjja123 on Wednesday, April 27, 2005 - 08:22 pm:

Yes we are swimming :) The deck is still being worked on. It should be done this week.
The party is 11-4.
We had just invited the kids but seems a lot of parents plan on coming too--which is fine. I am guessing we will have 30 people here.

WATERMELON! YUM YUM!

By Bellajoe on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 07:38 am:

Maybe fill a bowl with ice and then set the dip in that to keep it safe.

You are having a 5 hour birthday party???????? WOW!!!! and why on earth? LOL

By Kaye on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 08:52 am:

instead of a creamy dip, so with a black bean dip, it can get warm and not ruin. Watermelon sounds like a great idea too!

Most parties here run that long?
I thought that would give the kids lots of time to swim, eat, play, etc...

By Kernkate on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 09:06 am:

Last year for DS graduation party I got one of those inflatable kids wading swimming pools not to big filled it with ice and put all my salads and dips in there to keep them cold, worked excellent! For my salads I used sand pails instead of bowls. Really good way to keep everything from spoiling in the heat.

By Jann on Thursday, April 28, 2005 - 09:08 am:

Really? wow! The longest one I have ever seen here was 3, even swim parties. The high schoolers have longer ones cause it's either a dance or movie/dinner type thing. Ya'll are nicer than we are! LOL
Cute idea Kernkate.

Yeah that idea is great! We actually have huge coolers (seats) on the boat that we can take off the boat and use. I didn't even think about that.
Thanks!
