Teacher Retirement Gift

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: Teacher Retirement Gift
By Melanie on Tuesday, April 26, 2005 - 01:44 pm:

My son's teacher is retiring this year after 35 years of teaching. I want to organize a gift from the class since she has taught both of my boys. Any ideas? :)

35 yrs of teaching desreves something tho! :)

Thanks for your help, Conni. She has been teaching at our school since 1978! I didn't have the heart to mention to her that I was just five at that time. :) I contacted our school secretary (who has been here for about as long!) and she is going to work with me to get me class lists from past years. I am also going to see if she has any history on the school-pictures, written history, anything. I've decided to try to pull together a "through the years" type scrapbook for her. Believe it or not, she is not our most senior staff member. At least two (perhaps three) have been here longer. (We only have 7 teachers total at the school!) I also served on the school foundation with another retired teacher who taught at our school for many years. Hopefully, with all of these resources, we can put together a nice book. With their help and the help of classmates.com I am going to see if I can find former students to include in the book. I also know how to find four of the principals she has worked under. It will be a big task, but I think I can do it.

I think thats a GREAT idea. It sounds like alot of work-- but I know it will be worth it. She will love it!!
