How do you get something out of an eye?

Weird question, I know. Scott (DH) has something in his eye and he can't seem to wash it out. He's tried drops and the faucet...it's getting close to 4 hours with this "something" in his eye. It hurts to open it, but not to close it. Any ideas?

He may have scratched it. I've done that a few times and it feels like there's something in it that can't be blinked out. I'd recommend a trip to the ER for that.

Like Trina said, it could be a scratch. If their is something in his eye, rub towards the nose. Keep rubbing in that dirrection only, and it should come out. HTH, and I hope I explained it right.

I would go to the ER or call first thing and get him in to see your eye doctor. Depending on what it was, it could be a scratch on the lens which he will need medication for... Or if it was something sharp it could be stuck in the lens, which you won't be able to remove that on your own and he will need medicated drops for that also.
DH is a welder by trade and he had a metal shard get into his eye. He had to use antibiotic drops and some kind of numbing drops in it for two weeks I believe. He has a scar on his lens now.

Dh has done that twice in the last couple of years and it has both times turned out to be a scratch which can turn into a corneal ulcer/tear. Send him to the eye doc first thing tomorrow and tell them you think it might be a scratch. I don't know that ER will do much good for you. Better off going to an opthalmologist (sp?).
This happened to dh last weekend when dd poked him in the eye. We called our doc on Sunday and he suggested seeing the eye doc. Mon. first thing and putting a patch over it until them to keep from using it until the doc could see it.

I agree with taking him in to be checked, I've scratched my eye a few times, and if something is embedded you want to get it out ASAP. DO NOT rub it, because if there is something in there he could do further damage.

My DH has this problem alot getting pieces of metal in his eyes at work, my best suggestions is call the eye doctor and let him take care of it. This way he won't do any damage to his eye.

Thanks, ladies! We got it checked out by a doctor today and he fixed it! Turns out he had a dirt particle in his upper eye lid that did scratch his lens a bit. So, hopefully the drops they gave him will help!
