What's on Your Checks?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: What's on Your Checks?
By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 02:08 pm:

And how long does a box of checks last you?

I just reordered checks today. Last time I had checks with biblical scriptures on them. This time I went with a sunflower border. Good thing DH doesn't write the checks, lol! :) A box of checks usually lasts us about 8 months. I pay bills online if I can and I only have about 11 "bills" checks I write out a month.

By Cocoabutter on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 02:24 pm:

I have the USA Flag on mine, but I need to reorder soon, and I might go with a floral print.

By Ilovetom on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 02:36 pm:

I had flip flops. I traded them for Gerber Daisies. :)

By Breann on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 02:50 pm:

Ours are white with a color family photo in the upper left corner next to our name and address.

We usually reorder every 3 months.

We right a lot of checks. I use checks to pay for things such as dance classes, gymnastics, preschool etc. That way I have a record of what I've paid in case there is any discrepency. Those places don't hand out receipts.

We pay our household bills on line.

Sometimes we float checks if we need to :)

By Brandy on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 02:54 pm:

we have boring checks that are cheaper per month lol = ) through our bank = )

By Andyjoy on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 02:57 pm:

Mine have my wedding picture--the one that's in my profile.

By Jtsmom on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 02:59 pm:

where are yall getting the checks with your picture on them? I would love that.

By Kaye on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 03:17 pm:

Ours are safety blue, whatever is cheap through the bank..LOL. We only right about 2-3 checks a month, I pay everything online and use a check card.

We live pretty frugal and streamlined. We only have about 10 bills total each month and then we pull cash out for monthly expenses like gas, groceries and the like.

By Boxzgrl on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 03:23 pm:

Joelle, I saw some on citm.com

By Vicki on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 03:23 pm:

Ours are called grey executive or something like that. I used to get cute ones, but on the rare occasion that dh took a check some place, he would be embarrased with those. LOL I only write about 5 checks a month since we started online bill paying and got the check debit card. Love those 2 things!!

By Kay on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 03:29 pm:

Ours are the freebie checks from the bank, blue I think. We're lucky if they last a month - every time I turn around, there's something to order or pay for at school.

I'm starting to pay more bills electronically to save postage, which is going up! (GRRRRR)

By Rayanne on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 03:36 pm:

Mine have confetti all over them.

By Kernkate on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 03:45 pm:

I just have the plain blue ones. I very rarely write a check. I use my check debit card all of the time.
All my bills I pay for by cash because they all are paid here locally.

By Babysitbarb on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 04:11 pm:

mine are the antique colored. Same style for a while. I use to order ones with designs but, sometime the design is ditracting. I also always have hard time trying to decide. I use checks for a lot of things and think about paying bills on line but, just never have.
Mine usually last a while because I order a lot.

By Unschoolmom on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 04:53 pm:

Wow. Checks.

We haven't used them for over 6 years. We pretty much pay bills over the internet or debit (I think debiting is a LOT more popular in Canada for some reason).

You Americans and your quaint, old-fashioned ways. :)

By Cat on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 04:59 pm:

We have two accounts. One (we call dh's--both names are on both) is the security plain-ole, plain-ole. The other (we call mine) has pictures drawn by kids. We order checks about every 2-3 years, usually four boxes. Mine last longer. We have started paying a lot online, though, except for local things.

By Reds9298 on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 05:43 pm:

I order checks about every 2 years or so, like Cat, and usually 3-4 boxes. I just use checks for monthly bills (utilities, cars, house), and use debit for daily expenses because I hate the hassle of writing a check in line!
Ours have puppies on them. DH never uses them so he doesn't care!! :)

By Missmudd on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 06:02 pm:

The household checks are blue freebies from the bank, the grocery account which I am the only signer are girlee checks w/ flowers and sayings like "seize the day". I got them from designerchecks.com. We live in the boonies and the card readers at the grocery store sometimes does and sometimes doesnt read my debit card so I still write alot of checks for groceries and to the school for lunches and.... Most real bills are online tho.

By Missbookworm on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 06:05 pm:

well ummmm I just recently ordered cheques for the first time (I'm 30) I was so excited when they came in cause I've never had a cheque book before. lol (note the spelling of cheques ;)) and I just got the plain blue ones...cause they were the cheapest. They sent me 100 of them and I imagine they'll last me forever since I rarely write cheques and only got them for emergencies lol. I pay cash for everything and pay all my bills at the bank when they come in. So I guess I'm still kinda old fashioned and quaint :P

By Jelygu on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 06:19 pm:

We have the plain free ones and ours last awhile. I don't use checks very often either. Why bother with the hassle?

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 07:22 pm:

I get the plain checks because I get mine free. I don't bank on-line, but only write 8 - 10 checks a month. My box of checks has a big add in it for "Deluxe Checks", which are fancy ones. I don't know if they are on-line, but their address is "Deluxe Business Checks and Solutions", P.O. Box 1186, lancaster, CA 93584. A couple of tricks with checks. Mine are printed without my middle initial, although I use my middle initial in my signature, so that if I lose some checks the thief might not use the middle initial in signing them. And, if you change banks, don't start your checks with #1, start them with #1000 or higher. Having a low number on your printed checks means "new account" to cashiers, and they often require additional information beyond your driver's license and may even refuse the check because it is a "new account" check.

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 07:31 pm:

We have the plain, boring ones, that come from the bank.

By Andyjoy on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 07:51 pm:

I got my photo checks at checksingthemail.com They even have photo checkbook covers!

By Karen~moderator on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 08:19 pm:

We have plain boring checks too, but I mostly pay with my debit card or pay bills online.

By Palmbchprincess on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 09:25 pm:

I only write 3 checks a month, so I've had the bank issued checks for 18 months or so, since I opened the account! I'm on my last book, so I'll be ordering some cute ones soon.

By Agreen on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 09:29 pm:

we have the boring green ones, somehow the idea of paying for something that i use to pay for other things doesn't sound so great to me..... LOL! we hard use checks here. So we use the free banks ones. We are big debit card users and use the internet to pay our bills. that dh's department. i hate balancing accounts!! ugh!

By Ginny~moderator on Wednesday, April 13, 2005 - 09:30 pm:

Here's the website for the Deluxe checks I mentioned above - click on "all checks" to see all the designs.

Here's another site: http://www.4checks.com/index.asp

my checks right now (which I am about out of) is drawn by children of St Judes. The checks are kind of expensive, but part of the proceeds goes right to St. Jude.

By Tink on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 12:54 am:

We have a photo of an angel statue and a saying "Little miracles are all around you" that we love since our last name means little angels. I was really surprised the first time I saw them since my DH picked them out and he writes checks more often than we do.

A box of checks typically lasts about a year. We don't have a debit card and use cash for most things.

By Cybermommyx4 on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 07:35 am:

We go through 2 boxes a year. They are blue with a reflective foil strip at the top (the design is called "reflections") and there is a line of text near the signature line that says "Miracles happen to those who believe." I pay a lot of bills online, but I prefer checks for around-town purchases (there are plenty) because it's easier for me to keep track of how much I'm spending that way. I like the "old-fashioned"ness of it :)

By Angellew on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 12:35 pm:

I have Scooby-Doo this time... Last time I had Wizard of OZ~!!! I like to switch around!

By Emily7 on Thursday, April 14, 2005 - 01:54 pm:

I need to order new checks & was seriously considering getting the photo checks then a few friends brought up a good point. In this day & age is it really safe to have yours or your kids pictures on checks that also have your address on them?
I think I will end up getting the same ones I have now, they have monuments on them.
