Coffee Pots

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: Coffee Pots
By Heaventree on Sunday, April 3, 2005 - 10:25 am:

My mom just bought me a new coffee pot. I wanted one with a thermal carafe as I don't like the burnt taste that coffee sometimes gets.

We now find the coffee tastes funny. I tried our regular coffee and the decaf. Both have a funny taste in the new pot. I have run water through the pot multiple times and a solution of water and vinegar followed by water again. We have made at least 4 pots of coffee.

Anyone had a similar experience?

Try the vinegar and water solution again.

It's possible it's the carafe. I've never used a coffee pot like that.

I'm too spoiled by my Bunn.

Try some baking soda and water. The plastic might have a scent that affects the taste. When it's empty leave to top off.

Bea, our pot is metal, I put it in the dishwasher tonight will see what happens. I'll try the baking soda if it doesn't work.

I might just call the manufacturer, I'm bit worried that maybe there is a chemical used in the manufacturing process.

I probably should have bought one with a glass interior.

It seems everything I buy lately has a problem with it. I bought a bottle warmer and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. No way am I bringing it back, have you seen the return lines at Walmart! The stars are just not in alienment for me these days when it comes to appliances. :)

If you can't get rid of it, try a french press. I was very skeptical at first but we get great coffee from it.

Mine was like that for a looong
time. I was ready to give up then all of the sudden it stopped and taste great now.

Colette, we have a coffee press! It makes great coffee, but I consider it to be a pain! LOL

I am so spoiled by my Bunn - we have a Bunn bean grinder also, and the Bunn coffee pot makes a fresh pot of HOT coffee in under 2 minutes.

Colette-you must be so patient! LOL! I like my coffee maker--my DH! :)
