I hate clothes

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: I hate clothes
By Missmudd on Friday, April 1, 2005 - 06:46 pm:

I just spent 2 hours trying to find something flattering to wear. I give up. And the problem isnt that I am overweight except in the chest. As in I am a 36D and when you look at the cutesy tight little tank top things that are the rage right now I look like a hooker. The stripes are not flattering either. And I certainly dont need a tshirt that says "foxy" And as far as the low cut jeans, my backside has no business seeing the light of day. I am tired of wearing sweats, I want something new, I just wanted something pretty, I hate clothes.

By Luvn29 on Friday, April 1, 2005 - 07:45 pm:

Ugh!!! I totally get you!!! I feel like I wear the same thing over and over and over again, because I have very few things that I am satisfied with, and I hate shopping for new things, because I am never happy with the way they fit or whatever.

By Karen~moderator on Friday, April 1, 2005 - 08:04 pm:

I LOVE clothes!

I am embarrassed to admit this, but I have bought more clothes in the last year than I ever have in my life.

BUT - in my own defense, I bought probably 80% of it on clearance. I've gotten new jeans, new capris, and new pants, and new tops. And since I *unfortunately* don't have your problem, Kristen, I've gotten some of those cutesy tops.

I must be having a *good clothes* day or week or year, because I am actually HAPPY about the way my new clothes look. :-)

Express has some pants on sale that are not cut down to *there*, and really are very flattering. They have a lot of tops on sale right now too, as does GAP.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, April 1, 2005 - 11:35 pm:

I know what you are saying and I feel your pain... I however have bought myself four new pair of jeans in the last month. Two pair of levi's on clearance at Sears and two other from a new store in town, first new to me jeans I have had in a very long time... All are low rise and I honestly like them better then the regular cut. I am short so a regular cut puts the waist of the pants at my belly button.
BUT I can't find shirts to save my life. I am 33 and a bit over weight (to much stress I am sure). The shirts are either to teen, too old or to costly for me. I am sick of wearing plain T shirts (Walmart 5 dollar Hanes her ways) or t shirts with sayings. And I have the same issues with the tanks. I am a High C and I spill out the top of the tanks. Which in some cases is okay by me (even more okay with DH LOL). But there are times when I need my face to be noticed and not so much my girls... LOL I have a pile of tanks and a pile of T's and no dressy type tops. And God help me I have looked every where and I can't find anything... *Pouting* I also hate shoes.... I have back issues because of a car accident and I can't find any shoes I like that don't bother my back besides Tennis shoes. I want to wear the sexy high strappy summer sandles.. *pouting even more*

Oh and I want shorts that my butt doesn't hang out of and that don't come to me knees... Can't they even manage that one?????

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, April 1, 2005 - 11:37 pm:

Oh and Karen, HUSH your mouth... If I had your figure I would be happy about my clothes too.. *sticking out my tongue at you*

By Tink on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 01:43 am:

Karen, you are getting a big *nanny-nanny-boo-boo* from me, too! I can't find a single button-up shirt that doesn't gape over my 38 DD's!! Yeah, I'm willing to donate to anyone in need! :) Why are all shirts big enough for my chest down to my knees and shaped like a box? I love low-waisted pants but I don't want to worry about my rear hanging out when I bend over to pick up a kid or look at an anthill! I've been told being curvy means you have to dress like a matron or a prostitute. I'm beginning to understand that!

And Bobbie, Amen! to your short dilemma! I have the same issue. Just give me a decent pair of shorts. I haven't been happy with a pair of shorts in the last three years.

By Brandy on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 09:14 am:

I "tried" to get some cute button up tops well i did in an xl and well my boobs wouldn't let me wear them lol = ) ..I had to take them back and in the bigger section they didn't have any i liked = ( i guess i will have to go to somewhere besides Meijer lol = ) ...

By Brandy on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 09:15 am:

well besides my boobs are big and i'm fat to boot lol = )

By Feona on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 09:21 am:

Eillen fisher does amazing things with clothes.. I don't know what she does with the fat but it disappears in her pants...

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 09:38 am:

Well, if any of you want to contribute to my *cause*, I am willing. ROFL When they were giving out *chests*, I must have gotten in the wrong line, because mine is barely there!

Shorts - I rarely wear them now. Mainly because I don't want my cheeks bared to the world, and as short as they all are now, that's what happens, or at the very least, you are greeted by 2 vertical slabs of cellulite if you are behind me. No, shorts are not for me these days, that's why I wear capris.

To all of you with the boob problem - you CAN get some nice, stretch tops that are *more than casual*. Even with my diminished front side, I prerfer stretch tops, they are more comfortable.

Keep looking!!! What I've been doing for the past few years is try on clothes at GAP, make a note of the style and size I like, and check the website weekly for sales and clearance. I always access it through Momsview where you can almost surely get an online coupon. I just ordered some stuff and not only got free shipping, but 10% off on top of that, plus it was all on clearance!

And believe it or not, lots of my clothes come from Sam's Club.

My one splurge is Victoria's Secret, and *that* is where my *cleavage* originates! And I make sure to hit their semi-annual sales, you have to be willing to spend a lot of time rifling through the sales bins, but I've gotten bras for $9.99 there on clearance.

And - if you want a *dressier* look with a plain T-shirt, wearing a lightweight jacket over the T-shirt with a pair of jeans totally changes the look. I just got a jean jacket at T.J. Maxx for $14.99, and a neutral colored, lightweight cotton one at Macy's for $19.99. Really does *dress up* your plain T-shirt and jeans.

I love to shop though, so when I have the time to spend thumbing through sales racks, I do it. If you hate shopping, that would pose a problem for you.

By Karen~moderator on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 09:41 am:

OH - and regarding shoes - Bobbie, is there a Famous Footwear near you? We have one of those near my office and I love it! I wear a size 9.5 shoe, and I've always had narrow feet, but now I have this very lovely (NOT!) bunion on one foot, so I have to get shoes that won't aggravate that. Plus, I've had the 2 back surgeries, so I cannot wear high heels comfortably.

Famous Footwear always has great deals, often *buy one, get the next one half off*, plus if you get the punch card, you end up with a free pair at some point.

Just a thought - you can get cute, *flat* shoes there for a decent price.

By Trina~moderator on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 10:39 am:

ROFL! You girls are hilarious! I believe this is the very first time I've felt LUCKY to be small chested!

Oh Karen, I can SO relate to this! LOL!
"My one splurge is Victoria's Secret, and *that* is where my *cleavage* originates!

I love clothes and shoes! Although I wear some junior things I usually go shopping in the Missy section. The shorts aren't too short in that department, if you KWIM.

I have two pair of low rise boot cut jeans but don't wear them often. They are comfortable but I don't like my stomach or hip handle bars to show. I'm sure to cover them up. smileyashamed I usually wear good old fashioned Levi's 550s. I do have difficulty finding dressier pants that fit well because I am long torsoed but have short legs. Argh.

Old Navy has lots of cute tops. The "Easy Fit" styles aren't clingy or tight fitting. :)

By Pamt on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 11:41 am:

I just got a new Lands End catalog and they actually have some cute mid-thigh shorts that don't look like grandma shorts, but your cheeks won't hang out of either. They cost more than I usually spend, but I haven't bought new shorts in 3 years because I haven't been able to find anything but hoochie-mama shorts...even in the misses section.

Does anyone have a problem with Old Navy pants, shorts, skirts? I always find cute bottoms there and can't wear ANY of them. I am tall and fairly thin, but always leave Old Navy feeling like a disproportionate freak! Either it's way too big in the waist, but too tight in the butt or maybe loose in the thighs and I can't get it buttoned. For some reason I always give it another try, NOTHING with a waistband ever fits, and I leave with my self-esteem in the toilet.

My new favorite place to shop is New York and Company (and I hate to shop!). If you sign up online they always send awesome coupons. Right now I have one 30% off coupon and one $30 off a purchase of $75 coupon. There clothes are nicely made, reasonably priced, and they have awesome sales. I just have to go to the mall...and I hate the mall! :)

By Palmbchprincess on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 11:43 am:

It's not easy for anyone it seems. I'm small, but I can't find any clothes in my size that aren't hoochie looking. I was talking to my grandmom yesterday about shopping, she's very overweight and we were talking about the horrors of trying to find clothes. I told her it's not any easier if you are skinny, especially if you have a short waist like I do. All the pants either come up to my chest or my butt crack hangs out!!

By Bellajoe on Saturday, April 2, 2005 - 09:21 pm:

Karen, Old Navy is selling longer shorts now. I was just there a few days ago and they have what they call "Board Shorts" but they are just shorts that are as long as they should be. Your butt will definitely not be showing in those.

I have come to the conclusion that i look ridiculous in capris. They make me look short and make my butt look like it is the sixe of Texas! Oh and there is always this 4 inch gap in the waist in the back. Because I have a big butt and a smaller waist.

So in conclusion, i hate shopping too.

LOL Pam i just read your post about Old Navy. I could have written that myself. Except the tall and thin part. :)

By Karen~moderator on Sunday, April 3, 2005 - 11:06 am:

Pamt, I have trouble finding Old Navy clothes to fit me too, we are around the same height, etc.

Patti, I have seen the board shorts but those are longer and *narrower* than I like shorts to be. I actually love capris, so I'll stick to those for now.

I also used to shop at New York & Co, but I stopped going there because for a few years, it seemed like they never got anything new in. Plus they moved the store location at the Esplanade mall and the store STINKS - not kidding it really has a bad odor, like dirty feet or something!

By Missbookworm on Sunday, April 3, 2005 - 09:49 pm:

LOL! My cleavage originates from victoria's secret too...when I feel like having cleavage that is....I too could use some more up there if you guys are passing it out lol....I do have to admit though I rather like having a small front...although since having and nursing 3 kids I could use a "lift" Lol! my guy doesn't care though so I've sorta adjusted

By Kym on Monday, April 4, 2005 - 12:45 am:

I'm a 36D as well, I have found tops from Land's End fit nicely, I like the V-Neck lace ribbon shirts to, but sometimes they show about 34 out of 36 if you know what I mean:) I was thinking today as my 10 month old pulled my shirt down and introduced the twins to the little league team that I'll be getting some double stick tape:)LOL I want to wear the styles but it's hard when you feel like you are hangin' out! As far as pants go, I could wear a 8 or 10 in my waist but my "boute" as dh calls it, forces me into a 12 so I usually only buy Tommy Hilfiger because they run a size larger, I find great deals end of season, I did splurge on a pair of Apple Bottoms, they are not in yet, I'll post how they fit when they do!
I'm also loving these high wedge shoes, cute cute cute for summer sandals, and they make the back side look smaller!

By Children03 on Monday, April 4, 2005 - 06:30 am:

I have a hard time finding any shorts or pants to fit me because I have hips and a butt, but a small waist. What happens is that I find a pair of pants/short and when I put them on, they fit great in the waist and butt, but then they just gape open in the back because of my waist is so much smaller than my bottom half. I get so frustrated with it. I can wear an 8 in some things, but mostly 10 or 12. It just depends on what I am buying. The 12's are usually falling off of my waist.

I love gap jeans and old navy, but I can't buy them because they are the worst about fitting my bottom and then being HUGE in the waist. My husband even said, the people that make these jeans are only thinking of one type of figure and that is a woman without a butt. I think he's right because two of my friends wear the pants from the gap and old navy just fine, and neither of them have butts, they have flat butts so the pants fit in the waist too.

I love clothes, but I just hate spending the time shopping for them!

By Bobbie~moderatr on Monday, April 4, 2005 - 10:20 pm:

Karen, No Famous Foot Wear around here but we do have a Payless and I actually went in there this afternoon and bought myself a pair of sandals. They are wedges but they are very comfortable. Soft souls. Really cute with my jeans... Loving them..

And I am going to Walmart tomorrow and buy myself a couple of those $5 basic Hands T shirts. They have some BRIGHT summer colors. I guess bright and summery is better than old and frumpy. LOL

And I have the huge gap in the back of my pants also. That is something else I need to buy, a belt. I haven't owned/bought a belt in a long time. So that is my plans for tomorrow.

I am 16 years past needing new clothes...

By Conni on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 - 08:40 am:

I love Eddie Bauer clothes myself. They seem to fit me well. However, I am getting chubbier by the minute since I hit my 30's. I am also in the No boob's section... Thank goodness for padded bras!!!!

All the women in Argentina were really thin. There sizes are alot smaller than ours. I didnt even bother trying on clothes I didnt want to be completely depressed. LOL!!! An 8 there looked like a 4 or 6 here. argh Needless to say I bought alot of knick knacks and t-shirts for the kids. No clothes for me. :)

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 - 08:56 am:

Bobbie, I just bought some wedged sandals - I love them. I also just bought a new belt. LOL

Most of my clothes have been black or white, or earthy tones - khaki, greens, some blues, etc. But since I changed my hair color, I've started wearing bright pinks, purples and brighter blues, and I love it.
