I did a google search for "national writing contest first grade." I found the Reading Rainbow contest, but we just missed the deadline.

DD wrote a very cute and well organized story at school and I thought the experience and pride of entering a contest would really do her well.

Do any of you know of any contest open to the general public and first grade level?

I'm not sure but I think magazines like "Highlights" and "Owl" might take submissions. It's worth looking in to.

I just did a search for "children's writing contest" and found oodles of sites with several listings. Thanks, Paula ,I'll check Highlights too.
