Birth Control and Curtains

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive April 2005: Birth Control and Curtains

Strange topic, I know, but I didn't want to waste momsview space...
2 questions...
1. Does anyone know how I can get some nice brightly colored curtains? I'm even looking for a sheer orange kind. (I've got a chocolate color on the walls and wanted to brighten it up.)

2. I might start the Ortho patch. Anyone use it or heard anything about it? There was a discussion in 2002 here but I wanted some updated info.

Tank ewe!

I sewed all the curtains in my house, and I'm not a very skilled seamstress, so I can honestly say it was easy. I used the ortho patch in 2002 and 2003, but I hated having the patch on my rear (my abdomen is too stretchmarked, and shoulder is too obvious) because it would get dark fuzzies stuck to the edges from pulling up my jeans. I didn't find it helpful with periods or cramping, so I really don't think it has any advantages for me.

As far as the curtains are concerned, what size of window are we looking at? The previous owners of our house left all the curtains behind. I thought they were really pretty. My mom came to visit and said "Do you know what those are?" I said no, they were fabric shower curtains. I never would have guessed or imagined, they are easy to take care of, just wash in the washer, put the rings back on and hang on the curtain rods. I know it sounds tacky but they really look good and I know that they are alot cheaper than real curtains. Since you are looking for an unusual color this may work for you.

As far as the patch is concerned, sorry no advice :)

I sew all my own curtains too. And, I am also not a very skilled seamstress. I buy fabric from Wal-Mart. They have all kinds, even the nicer upholstry fabrics.

I've never used the patch. Didn't even think of the points brought up above. I guess it would be just like a sticker and attract all kind of lints and dirts around the edges.

I sew about half of my curtains...that way I can always get exactly what I want and they are usually cheaper because I like the expensive ones! (Of course) If you can't sew though or aren't interested in doing that, Target and KMart have cute stuff and great deals. Table cloths and shower curtains are GREAT ideas...have done both for curtains.

Don't know anything about the patch...have wondered about it myself but have been on the pill so long I can't imagine trusting anything else. (I do not want anymore children so it's really improtant to me. Don't want to take any chances! :)

The patch: I heard that there is no guarantee that the egg will NOT be fertilized. (The same as the pill). I think it just makes the uterus "an unfriendly" place to implant. Because of that, I personally can't go that route. I would always be thinking, "I hope that wasn't future baby!" I know... a little heavy. I could be wrong, but that is what I have heard.

Monica you have your facts right, not going to open this particular topic up tho, belongs on a different thread on the kitchen table.

By Palmbchprincess on Tuesday, March 29, 2005 - 11:08 pm:

I believe most hormonal BC methods not only make your uterus "unfriendly" but also thicken your membranes to prevent fertilization. An IUD definitely makes a hostile environment in your uterus, so that leaves barrier and natural methods. For all it's worth, even with no BC that could be "a future baby", because even with conception there is no guarantee of implantation/pregnancy. You could break it down further by saying every ejaculation and every ovulation is a "baby". JMHO

Have never sewn curtains and have never used the patch! LOL! I'm about to knit a hat for myself, for next winter, though, since I cannot find one I like in the stores and I have looked a couple winters in a row now! Nothing is a double-layer. I like a double layer, that I can also fold up by my ears! I'm definitely a hat person i the winter. I hate for my ears to be cold!

I FOUND SOME ORANGE CURTAINS FROM SPEIGEL!! YIPPEE! They're sheer too, which is perfect.

I use the patch and I LOVE IT! i like the fact that I only have to think about it once a week/ The only drawback for me is that it makes my breasts tender, but maybe that will subside. It did it when I put itch on my tummy, but does great on my rear end. I also have less mood swings and it has brouht my estrogen levels bsck to normal, they were low before. I love the patch.

I saw the topic, and nearly fell over laughing, because what better example of a mom's multi-tasking than that! LOL
