Grrrrr...... Ants!!!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: Grrrrr...... Ants!!!!

A bad side of base housing!!!!! :( All my neighbors have ants too. I keep my kitchen spotless and still have to kill the occasional ant that runs across the counter but it was to my surprise to make coffee this morning and find ants in my sugar!!! Gross, Gross, Gross! I've sprayed Raid in all the areas of my kitchen that I think they may come from and they are still here. I guess I need to go buy Tupperware to keep my sugar and other loose things in to keep the ants out of my spice cabinet.

Ewww...that would gross me out too!! Have you ever looked into having a professional come spray? We get our house sprayed every spring. The come in and spray the living areas as well as the basement and garage. Then they power wash the entire house with something that prevents bees, lady bugs, spiders and flies. Works great!! Never see any creepy crawly things in my house anymore!!

Are they sugar ants, or regular ants?
If they are sugar ants, Raid won't work. It only works temporarilly. You need a professional for those. They are very hard to get rid of. You need to kill the queen. We had our house sprayed for those, and then they came back. They are very smart ants. They made a trail where ever the spray didn't go. It was like a mze when I saw them. He FINALLY got them all. I hope.

I agree with Rayanne. You need to determine what kind of ants they are first. Carpenter ants are large and black and will require professional help. If that's the case the military will want to take care of it because carpenter ants can cause structural damage to wooden buildings.

I have no idea what type of ant they are. They are just small and black. Maybe 1/4 - 1/2 inch? It's disgusting. Since we have duplexes, won't it be useless for me to treat my house and not my neighbors? I know of 3-4 people on our block that have an ant problem. It seems like an issue base housing would like to fix. I think we can request for someone to come out and spray. I'll have to call them.

Try this stuff called Terro. Keep it away from your dd and the daycare boy though. http://www.terro.com/antkiller.php it works great!

or you can also mix a 5lb bag of sugar with a 5lb box of borax and sprinkle it all around the foundation of your duplex (both sides).

I don't think it would pointless for you to have your part treated. I would think it would keep them out still.

Housing will send an exterminator, just call them ASAP, since we all know how "speedy" they can be. It's so difficult to treat ants with a little one at home, but Kaitlyn is old enough now that she won't be too difficult to keep away from it. BTW, check behind the light switch plates and outlet plates. In my apartment in FL we had sugar ants in the kitchen, and when my ex took the plates off they were living behind them.

Well I called and they are sending Terminex out here Thursday. Thank Goodness, these ants are about to drive me crazy. I'm going to have my neighbors call as well.

What about those little ant traps. They look like little houses or something. We use those at work and have success. Of course since it is a group home and the company pays to have it sprayed reguarly. Good luck

I get ants in my bathroom. They rarely wander out to anywhere else! It's the weirdest thing. They eventually go away. Ugh. Hate it!

I've heard that if you make a line of coffee to the way out they will follow it. I've never tried it, but it might work :)Good luck!
