Girls weekend away

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: Girls weekend away

My mom, sisters, sisters in law, and I plan on going on a "Girls weekend getaway" sometime in the end of summer or early fall. We live in North and South Ohio, Rochester NY, and Chicago and will be driving SOMEWHERE for a nice weekend. Any Ideas?
We are looking in Indiana, Ohio, or maybe Michigan.
Our Ideas so far are : Brown County Indiana, Niagra Falls, or Mackinac Island Michigan. We just don't want one person to have to drive really really far.

Any other Ideas would greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you guys would LOVE Mackinac Island, thought it will probably be very chilly. You also need to make sure the lake's not frozen over so you can get to the island. I loved it there.

Also, you can't go wrong with Niagra Falls. Beautiful, and at night they have a light show on the falls. I've seen some really good specials on the Holiday Inn at the Falls, too. Check their website...

Oh, duh....Just now saw that you said you are going at the end of summer or early fall.

Guess you won't have to worry about the lake being frozen over at that point! hehe!

Have you been to Mackinac before? It's gorgeous. Horses everywhere, because that and bicycles are the only transportation besides rescue vehicles. Lots of quaint little shops.

I don't know much about those areas, but Nate is from Indy, I'll ask his mom what she thinks about it. Enjoy your trip!!

How about the Wisconsin Dells? Niagra is great fun too. I would love to go to Mackinac Island!
Chicago would be great fun too (even though one person does live there) you could stay at a hotel on the Magnificant Mile

Brown County is beautiful in the fall! There's lots to do there too. We live about 20 minutes from there and go a lot. Plus, it's only about 30 minutes from Bloomington, which has awesome one-of-a-kind restaurants.

Door County, in WI, is a cool place to go! Lots of shops and pretty scenery. It's the "thumb" of WI. I love it that my parents live up there and we can stay with them! I don't know if you want to drive that far, though.

Door County Vacations

Door County looks beautiful, but that would be a long drive for just a weekend. Especially for my sister in Rochester, NY.

Thanks ladies and keep the ideas coming!

We just went to Mackinac Island in August! Loved it. The island is really nice and quaint, but I did think it stunk. LOL The smell of horses is overwhelming, so if you do go there, be ready for that. LOL I did enjoy riding bikes on the path and going in all the little shops etc though. We didn't stay on the island, but took the ferry over for the day.

Has anyone been to the Port Clinton, Oh, area?
We are now thinking of Put in Bay or Kelleys Island. It is the most centrally located for all of us. I have been to Put in Bay but not Kelleys island. If you have been to both, which do you like more?

Yeah, it would be a long drive! Sturgeon Bay is about an hour and 15 minutes from our house. My parents' community, is another 45 minutes north. Sometimes, we meet them in Sturgeon Bay and eat lunch there! Then the drive doesn't seem as long.
