Complaining about the weather * again *

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: Complaining about the weather * again *
By Sue3 on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 04:16 pm:

It has been crazy ! This weekend was beautiful! It got up to 48 and the sun shone all day,
I almost opened up all the windows.
It has been pretty warm today too ,45 I think .
Then it got cloudy.
And it`s getting colder.
All the snow has melted ,our basement is flooded !
Now they say it`s suppose to get down to 15 degree`s this evening and more snow is on the way with a possible weather advisory tomorrow.
Then it is suppose to stay cold all week long.
I heard the Robins this morning though and the Red Winged black birds so spring is just around the corner right? I hope so.
Thanks for letting me vent about this terrible weather !! I almost feel better about it now

By Colette on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 04:18 pm:

I was just going to vent too. We are forcasted for "heavy snow with significant accumulations" tomorrow night.

I like snow, but this is getting old.

By Trina~moderator on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 04:41 pm:

I hear ya! This time of year is hard. We get little teasers of mild, spring like weather and then BAM, it's cold and snowy again. :(

By Colette on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 04:46 pm:

We now have a winter storm watch for tomorrow...

By Dawnk777 on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 10:02 pm:

We got up to 56 on Sunday. It was GORGEOUS! We went to the state park near our house to walk the dog on the beach. It was great.

Today, it's cold and windy, and current temp is in the low 20's. Supposed to get down into the teens. UGH!

By Melanie on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 10:13 pm:

:( I remember so well how dreary this time of year was when the snow just wouldn't go away. I feel for ya. Hang in there. Spring weather is just around the corner!

By Fraggle on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 10:19 pm:

Add me to the list of complainers.:( I have no idea what is going to happen here over tonight and tomorrow-heavy rain followed by heavy snow? Yuck. Would someone from the South send some real spring weather this way.

By Kernkate on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 10:34 pm:

Here in PA we are also under a winter storm watch. The Temp here now is 50 and they are calling for 7-9 inches of snow tomorrow!!!

By Bea on Monday, March 7, 2005 - 11:35 pm:

Even in the mid south we are getting nutty weather. It was in the 70s today with snow predicted for tomorrow.

By Kernkate on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 06:59 am:

Well its snowing here now and school are already closed!!
Think Ssign

By Colette on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 07:41 am:

AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!

By Angellew on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 08:46 am:

AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! (Echo to Colette!)

By Sue3 on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 09:17 am:

It was just forcasted that a warm up (anything over 30 degrees )will not happen for at least 2 weeks ! AAAAHHHHHHHHHH !! Is right.

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 09:28 am:

Our school district just called an Early Dismissal - 1:00.

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 03:59 pm:

My kids got out of school at 1:00 today due to snow. I waited outside for the bus until 1:45 and then called the school. The secretary confirmed the busses were running late due to snowy roads but still running. Then she said, "Oh wait, what bus?" I told her and then she proceeded to tell me that our bus couldn't make it up our hill and that it would finish the route and then drop off the kids on our street at the bottom of the hill. I didn't want to chance getting my van stuck so I hoofed it down the hill thinking, "Oh JOY! What FUN it will be hoofing back up with the kids and their backpacks!" Thankfully, a neighbor was at the bottom waiting in her Toyota Landcruiser and gave us a ride home. GRRRRRRRRRRR!! I am so ready for SPRING!!

DH *just* called to tell me he's leaving work now. The roads look AWFUL and he has a 45 min. commute on normal roads! *Fingers Crossed* that he makes it home safely!

By Colette on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 04:05 pm:

Hope he gets home soon Trina. My dh has about a 45 minute commute on a good day too. He was going to try to leave early.

It is dumping out and they've upped our totals to at least 12 inches.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 05:44 pm:

Wow, you guys must have had some nasty snow! I don't want any of it! I like seeing grass in my yard again. Also, the ice on the north side of the garage can melt anytime!

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 06:05 pm:

DH just got home. Phew! :)

Colette, is yours home yet?

Apparently the bus ride home was pretty scarey for DS. He said the bus slid a few times and he heard the bus driver swear. Didn't phase DD at all. LOL!

As it stands now the kids will be in school until the end of June. If we have anymore snow days we'll have to make them up during April vacation. Otherwise they'll have to make them up in July!

By Ginny~moderator on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 07:30 pm:

Yesterday it was well over 60. This morning they were predicting a temperature drop, cold rain, and a bit of snow around 4 that wouldn't stick. I wore my winter jacket, and roasted all the way to work. Around 10:00 a.m. we had a blizzard - it was definitely sticking, freezing, and people from my office who went out for lunch said it was terrible driving. The snow stopped around 3:30, and most of the way home the roads were just wet but with some slick spots. Tonight it is supposed go down into the low teens in my "Northern and Western suburbs (of Philadelphia) area" - Oh, lord, I hate that mantra - Northern and Western suburbs! On the way home I got sprayed by a salt truck, turned on my windshield washer and the stuff froze on the windshield - just as the light changed. Fortunately, my heater works really well so I got the window defrosted quickly, and put over a half gallon of anti-freeze windshield washer fluid in my car when I got home.

Oh, I hate winter!!!!!

By Colette on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 08:07 pm:

ooooohhhh it is snowing AND lightning out!!

Yes, Trina, dh left early and was home before it got really bad. This is crazy, the wind is blowing the snow up instead of down. I had to go to the vet w/my cat in this but hopefully I am in now for the night.

By Fraggle on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 09:28 pm:

Lightning! I hope it doesn't make it's way North. My DD is already freaked out by the sound of the sleet hitting the window. I can't get her to go to bed. She is going to be so tired for school tomorrow. I'm just hoping the power stays on tonight.

By Annie2 on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 10:02 pm:

Cold temperatures, icy roads, tons of snow...these are the reasons I could never live in NE again. It does have its perks but I am a warm weather gal now.
Hope everyone stays safe and warm! Thinking about you all! :)

By Hlgmom on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 10:07 pm:

Sending all of you the 75 and sunny we had today! I don't know how you guys do it!! My husband was born in Wisconsin and we both HATE the cold! I would be happy if it never went below 75 EVER! :)

By Wandilu on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 - 10:45 pm:

I know that there is a dangerous side to having snow...but I REALLY wish we could have had at least one good snow before winter is through.Maybe next year...but we did have a white Christmas,it just wasn't very deep.

By Angellew on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 - 01:06 pm:

There's nothing like 6 inches of snow on top of a nice layer of ice!!!! I LOVE WINTER! NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :(

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 - 02:38 pm:

Wandilu, can I send you the 1-2 inches of snow we are supposed to get tomorrow!? I'm sick of snow and have had my share. I'm ready for it to be gone.

By Fraggle on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 - 03:29 pm:

It is official, I am not doing any more shoveling or roof raking, I am just going to have to wait until it all melts (sometime in June-trying to LOL) I just wiped out on the ice trying to clear the snow from in front of the garage-the plow took care of the driveway but there is about two feet wide by two feet high in front of all the garage doors that needs to be moved so the cars can get out and in.

By Colette on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 - 03:31 pm:

I HATE roof raking. I am way to short for that.

By Sue3 on Wednesday, March 9, 2005 - 04:55 pm:

Well,at least the birds were singing very loudly this morning!Probally because it`s soooo darn COLD !!!!! AAAAHHHHHHHH !

By Wandilu on Thursday, March 10, 2005 - 03:04 pm:

Dawn, please do !!! Even my DH is disappointed that we haven't had snow. The bad side to that is,we have already had wasp flying around. And some other flying bugs.Last summer was HORRIBLE with mosquito"s and bugs, due to not enough cold weather.

By Colette on Thursday, March 10, 2005 - 03:11 pm:

this is the email I just got from my mother. She sent it upon seeing the reports for yet another big storm this weekend.

this is a direct cut and paste.

If I have to spend one more weekend stuck in the house, these are the headlines you'll be reading on CNN.

City Woman found frozen to death sitting in her yard in a lawn chair with a bathing suit and sunglasses on, with a Margarita frozen to her lips.

Although dead, there was a huge smile on her face.

Her arm was raised up and her middle finger was pointing skyward.

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, March 10, 2005 - 03:36 pm:

LOL, Colette!

By Sue3 on Thursday, March 10, 2005 - 03:38 pm:

Lol ,Colette. That about sums up how I feel today.I`ll have to send that to my sister.

By Cocoabutter on Thursday, March 10, 2005 - 04:50 pm:

Hey, Sue! On Monday, I volunteered at my ds' school. It was like spring in the morning, so we went in with our jackets on. They had recess outside at 2:00, and it was so cold and windy. But the worst thing was that there were icy puddles of standing water all over the playground. Even though they told the kids they couldn't play out in the field and had to stay on the wood chips around the jungle gym and the swings, there was still plenty of water for the kids to get into.

Big surprise, ds has a cold now.

sun

By Fraggle on Thursday, March 10, 2005 - 10:31 pm:

LOL, Colette. I just can't laugh too hard because I just saw Fri-Sat. forcast and there are another 6-8 inches headed this way. Would anyone with daytime temperatures over 50 degrees be willing to adopt me for a month or so? I am a really good cook.:)

By Bobbie~moderatr on Thursday, March 10, 2005 - 11:28 pm:

Snowing here too. North central Ohio. They are calling for snow clear through Monday. And DD has Choral Competitions Saturday, Two hour drive to Oak Harbor which is up by Toledo (Lake effect snow, not a good deal). Two hours on a bus with all those kids in the snow.... **crying** And after all the practice they have been through I so hope it doesn't cause it to have to be canceled. Come on spring.....
