Now I need a new vacuum!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: Now I need a new vacuum!
By Bellajoe on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 10:20 am:

First a car, now a vacuum! At least the car still works LOL!

My Hoover stopped sucking stuff up. The bag is not full, everything seems to be intact. I guess it is just done working for me.

I have been thinking about a Dyson. Do those who own a Dyson like it? Is it worth the money? I like that it is bagless and lightweight and I love that you can vacuum the stairs easily.

Do you recommend a Dyson? What does everyone else have?
Thanks!

My cousin has one and LOVES it. She was so emberrassed when she vacuumed for the first time with it, because of how much stuff it sucked up. She couldn't believe how dirty her carpets really were. If I had the $, I'd get one too.

By My2cuties on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 10:33 am:

could it be clogged somewhere I was ready to get rid of ours then DH came home and took it apart and it had a huge clog in it.

But we just have a cheap Bissell, but it does the job. When we get a new one I want a bagless too. :) happy hunting

My best friend has one, loves it, and says she will never own another type of vacuum cleaner. She says it is well worth the money.

I want one. They look neat! But not in my lifetime after purchasing a Kirby.

By Bellajoe on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 10:57 am:

Candis I took it apart yesterday and got all the clogs out. I just went to vacuum and it still didn't suck anything up.

Girls i think you have me sold on the Dyson. They sell them at Target and I have a 10% off coupon! I think i will have my dh take a look at our vacuum. If he can't figure it out, then i will be getting me a Dyson! It is a lot of money for a vacuum. But it will probably last forever.

Please read comsumer reports about Dyson! They do NOT recommend it.

By Cat on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 11:23 am:

I love my Dyson. It's the best working vacuum I've had so far! I use it almost every day and empty the canister about once a week (of course, when I first got it I had to empty it about every two days because of all the "stuff" my other vacuum had missed!). I read about them lots before ordering one. The biggest downfall I found is if you need replacement parts. Mine's working great. I posted about it when I got it. It's in the archives somewhere. :)

from consumer reports

Best for most; all-around performance and value:
1 Hoover, $300
2 Eureka, $140, CR Best Buy

The self-propelled Hoover WindTunnel Self Propelled Ultra U6439-900 (1) offers superb overall performance and lots of features. Consider the Eureka Eureka Boss Smart Vac Ultra 4870 (2) if you're willing to trade self-propulsion and some airflow performance for a bit less noise and a much lower price. Also consider the capable, low-priced Hoover Tempo U5146-900 (9) if you're willing to wear ear protection.

I have a Bissel, but it's less than a year old, and it definitely gets lots of dust stuck in it. Nate just took all the filters out and they were disgusting. I want a Dyson when we can afford one, they get great reviews from owners.

By Vicki on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 01:46 pm:

Love, Love, Love my purple Dyson Aminal. I swear it could suck the paint off the walls. Worth it's weight in gold in my opinion.

By Vicki on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 01:47 pm:

LOL Dyson Animal... that last post sounded like I was a 2 year old saying animal. LOL

Isn't it ironic that we are also having a conversation about Kirby's in another post right about now?? ;)

Sorry, I just really love my Kirby. My mom always had one, too, but they are very expensive. I had my Hoover cleaned up two or three times at a vacuum shop until I decided it wasn't worth the effort anymore. The motor was losing it's power, too. It was only 4 years old. I was very surprised when my dh agreed to go into debt for a Kirby. We paid on it for two years.

I have never heard of Dyson Vacuums. I wish you good luck!

By Dandjmom on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 03:35 pm:

I was in Sears, Sunday and wwas looking at a Dyson adn noticed that the purlpe box said Aminal, and that there where about 2 or 3 other colors adn they where all for different things. I think i saw one that said total clean, can anyone tell me what the diferent colors mean. Its is one vaccumm works better for pet hair adn another better for just heavy traffic?

LOL thanks Rayanne!

By Kernkate on Friday, March 4, 2005 - 10:46 pm:

Did you check the belt on the old vacuum...usually when its stops sucking up its could be a belt...but guess by now you are use to the Dyson and don't give a hoot about the old one...LOL

By Bellajoe on Saturday, March 5, 2005 - 09:36 am:

LOL that's right Kathy!

I think the belt is fine. Usually when the belt breaks it stinks like burnt rubber.

I love the Dyson though.
