Ok so my SIL just found out she is pregnant we are very excited for her as they were told they might have a difficult time. We wanted to send hthem something special - and we kinda decided on a Vera Bradley diaper bag filled with Burts Bee's Baby goodies a book and maybe some stuff to pamper mama as well. The dillema, naturally we don't know the sex of the baby yet. Is your diaper bag supposed to cooridinate with the sex of the baby, or should it compliment you? The one we are looking at is VERY her its not like its light pink or anything but its definately more "girl". Its darker pink and orange there are others but this just rings her you know what I mean? So what do you all think?

This is the one we liked http://www.verabradley.com/ProductDetail.aspx?qs1=18537

I'd get one that complimented the mother. Especially if it's something you know she will love.

It depends...will the father take the baby too? My husband was very involved and took Connor out to the mall and on errands by himself and didn't want a flowery type bag.
If she'll be the one with him all of the time, then a backpack is nice. I got a bazillion bags and that's the one I loved the most. I returned the rest of them.
It's a Kenneth Cole Reaction backpack type diaper bag and it's all black. That way, I can use it for day or night. And, since it's a backpack, it can keep both hands free with the chance of it slipping, etc. It even has a cell phone holder on it that's cute.
Oh, and another thing that I got and LOVED...the DVD The Happiest Baby DVD
It really gave me the confidence with my first newborn.

I love that fabric, in fact I am goingt o get one for my girls but I am getting the tote instead of the diaper bag. Anyway, It is a fabulous color but I tend to think the diaper bag is for the baby. If I had a boy I would get a darker or a bluer color. Something either girl or boy is good too, like a green or yellow. She may feel different, that's just how I feel, and what I have seen alot of also (boy-boy colors, girl- girl colors). Good luck :)

I would go with what she would like. I had two girls, but bought a blue diaper bag and then a black diaper bag just because I liked the style.

I love it!!!! That is the exact one that I showed my DH that I wanted. It was either that one or a red one that I found. I would get it the one that complimented the her.

I love the sherbert pattern, my Leanna has it in the small duffle with her initials.

I think somewhere in between. When I had my boys I just would not of carried such a feminine looking bag. If I needed to feel girly I would take my purse and toss a diaper and some wipes in it. I was not the type to switch out bags, we had one we kept till it wore out and then got another, so it would also have to be okay for dad to take, because he did his fair share.

Very cute!
Also check e-bay. Search "boutique tote diaper bag" (no I don't sell them). There are some really gorgeous ones there. From $20 on up to $100.

I think if dad isn't going to carry it or if you're going to have a separate one for dad, then the bag doesn't need to coordinate to the sex of the baby. Most people I know just want something that dh will feel comfortable carrying, too! :)

By Hlgmom on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 07:56 pm:

Get it for the mom! If shes anything like me it will be her purse too! I havent carried a purse in two years! So my "diaperbag" is funky stripes and I love it!

By Frasersmama on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 - 08:18 pm:

I think carrying a diaper bag is like carrying a purse, it should be what mom likes, not necessarily related to the gender of babe. How many people wait to see what their baby is before they buy their diaper bag???

I had 3 boys. I always had a diaper bag that looked like a *boy*. Blake had a couple with his name monogrammed on the side. These were excellent for leaving with him in the nursery. Teachers never wondered which bag was his. ;)

We have a store locally that makes CUTE bags for kids and monograms them. Dh really never takes the kids anywhere-- so I will say I never bought the bags with dh in mind!

I bought bags thinking about my dh taking them and the sex of the baby. My first bag was pretty gender neutral and one my dh felt comfortable carrying. The second was all boy, navy and white striped. The last was very girly. I went overboard on the girl factor since I knew she was my last. I never really thought about what suited me and my style. It was function and the baby's sex that I went by.

That bag is really cute but I wouldn't feel comfortable carrying it if I had a little boy. JMO

Function above all! My favorite bag was from Land's End...it had a pad I could put down for changing, a bag for soiled and wet things, lots of pockets... Not fashionable, but after a week or so, who cares? LOL I also liked the mini diaper bag that I got at the hospital, for quick trips to the store or to keep in the car for emergencies.

You know my favorite diaper bag I got was from cvs. I used the super big ones about 4 times. the diaper bag was super small with two side pockets for bottles or sippy cups.

I think I saw on on ebags. It was a samsonite which was nicer than mine.

I say goet it for the mom, hat you think she would like adn not worry about it,, I look at it this way if this is there first child (like me and probaley others here) she is going to recieve at lease one or two doaper bags at her baby shower. And still a month or two down the line see somethign else that has jsut hit the market adn want to and probaley will get that, and use them all switch out from time to time. My DS is my second child and I still have bought over 6 doaper bags for him until I finally found a back back by Babay trend at toys are us. That I aslo use as a purse on the weekends when he is with me. I think it is a wonderful idea and the Burt's Baby Products in the bag way cool.
