Had my purse stolen :(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: Had my purse stolen :(

and the suckiest part is that it had EVERY important piece of id I had in it that day cause I had an appt. last week that I needed it all for and the day it was taken I was running late and never thought about it and just grabbed it and ran out the door *sighs* I tallied it all up and figured it out it's gonna cost me about $300 to replace it all (had all my id and the kids stuff in it too) and I had to replace my cell phone. The great thing about that though was my b/f was really sweet and bought me a brand new one. He's also said that he'd be willing to help me out moneywise but I'm really down about it because I'm sooooo independent and have been doing really good up until now financially and have been doing fine taking care of me and my kids without help. It happened saturday and I still want to cry over the whole thing. I'm also angry and frustrated and just all around down about the whole thing. I've cancelled everything and I'm in the process of getting it back but *sighs*

{{{{{{Catherin}}}}}} I'm so sorry. I can only imagine how frustrating that is. Luckily, it's never happened to me (==looking around for a chunk of wood to knock on!==). Your b/f sounds really sweet though!!!!

I can totally relate to your independence, but as strong as you are, you need to accept the fact that this is one of those times you may NEED some help. If he is offering, accept it graciously. And then pay it forward.......

Oh man...so sorry to hear!!! Make sure you put a credit watch on your credit history. Call Experian, Transunion, or any major company. They will communicate with each other and put a 90 day watch on your identity.
Ugh...I feel for you!!! {{Catherin}}}

{{{Catherin}}} I'm so sorry. I've never been in your shoes and have no advice but I can't imagine the hassle. I hope everything works out okay.

I am so sorry! I hope everything works out, I had my purse stolen when I was 14 and I still remember...it was a horrible experience. :(

Catherin, check out this page on identity theft:

When my purse was stolen I put myself on the fraud alert lists at all three credit report companies, and I'm glad I did. I assume you notified your bank. My bank persuaded me to open a new account and close the old one, which was a pain, but I'm glad I did. Were your keys in your purse? If so, you should have your locks changed. You don't need to actually change the locks, but you should get them re-keyed. This means either the locksmith comes to your house and rekeys the cylinders (cheaper than new locks, believe me), or your bf takes the cylinders to a locksmith for rekeying and reinstalls the cylinders. I've done that, and it isn't that difficult. Also, what about your car keys? If they were in your purse, buy a "Club" or other steering wheel locking device and use it. And be sure you cancel the old cell phone number, if you haven't already.

I do know what a pain this is - it has happened to me twice.

I don't know how Canada handles drivers licenses, but be sure they know your old license was stolen.

I am so sorry sweetie. Just recently, my "wonderful DH" (Saying that sarcastically, LOL), answered a fradulant e-mail, and had all of his personal info. I know how you feel. My purse was not stolen, but our identity was. We were able to fix everything. We cancelled all credit cards and changed everything, before anyone was able to use our information.

{{{{{BIG HUGS TO YOU}}}}}

awwwwwwwwww thanks guys :) Things are slowly getting sorted out thank goodness...I did get my house rekeyed...and cancelled my bank card and the cell phone and reported every other piece of id in there stolen...I'm in the process of reporting to agencies here about the theft of my other id too. I was provided with a list of places to notify and how to watch too if I think my id is being used and what to do etc. :) Thankfully I have no car lol...or that would have been another concern.

Karen you're right I may have to suck it up this time and accept his help and I probably will...I guess the hard part is is that he's askin me exactly how much I think I need and to say well $300 would probably cover us having enough food for the rest of the month but I also need my phone bill paid...hurts my ego a little lolol. I know I'm going to end up getting money from him I just want to try to figure out what the minimum I would need to be ok. He is very sweet :) we've been together over two years now and he's my best friend as well as my boyfriend *smiles*

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ Everyone }}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} thank you so much for your support.
