What time do you start Dinner?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: What time do you start Dinner?
By Heaventree on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 11:41 am:

I find since I'm pregnant I have more energy in the morning. By the time DS has his afternoon nap, I'm really for one too. I don't like feeling like I need a nap in the afternoon, last pregnany I worked full-time.

Anyway, yesterday I made dinner just after lunch, today it's just past 11:30 and dinner is done. I find that DS is better able to entertain himself in the morning allowing me to get more done.

Just wondering when you all start dinner?

By Fraggle on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 11:51 am:

Usually around 5 unless I'm making something that has to cook for a while. We usually eat sometime after 6, when DH gets home. I remember when my oldest DD was a newborn, I would prep everything while she napped in the afternoon so I could just throw it together and cook within 15 minutes at dinner time.

I'm supposed to cook oopsie someone must of let that out of my wifely duty book lol just teasing but seriously i don't cook dinner very often for the fact of i hate cooking and i'm not good at it and i work from 5-9 at night lol ...

By Emily7 on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 11:59 am:

It depends on what I am having, if I can I wait for dh to get home at 5:15, otherwise I get it started so it will be on the table by 6pm.

By Tink on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 12:17 pm:

I start it at 5pm most nights but I use the crockpot at least once a week so dinner gets started by 10am on those days. I wish I'd been more organized when I was preggo and my children were smaller. Dinnertime used to be sooo stressful.

Sometimes I like to plan ahead and work on the next day's supper the evening before. I enjoy cooking more when I'm not hungry and I have more energy after supper than I do in the late afternoon.

Late afternoon is my down time! LOL! My energy level just lags. If I lay down to take a nap, I'm out like a light. However, taking a nap around 4pm, does cut into making dinner! LOL! It's a dilemma.

Tonight, I have to start making chili for tomorrow night's soup supper at church! So, I will probably brown all the ground beef and make half of it tonight and the other half tomorrow sometime. I have to work all day today, so won't have time to make it all tonight, nor would I want to.

Sometimes I start around 4:30 and sometimes it is a bit later than that. I try to have our dinner ready at 6:00pm every evening.

Depending on what I am making. If it's a casserole, I make it during the day and bake it just before dinner. Otherwise, I make the kid's dinner around 4-4:30p. They eat early because someone usually has karate at night. They are always done eating by 5:30p. When dh comes home (anywhere between 5:30-7) he makes dinner for him and I.

By Kernkate on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 12:39 pm:

I start at 3:30-4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, only because I have been bartending on those night and have to be to work by 6 so we eat by 5. Other nights I start a bit later and have dinner on the table no later then 6. Hate having a late dinner then I doing all the clean up when I am beat.

Between 5-5:30.

I usually get dinner started between 4:30-5:30. I usually wait for DH to get home from work to entertain DD. I get him to give her baths at this time too. I used the crock pot a lot while I was pregnant, and still do. It is a big help when you want to rest.

By My2cuties on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 01:29 pm:

I start around 5 dinner is ready by around 6. I do not like having dinner late, weekends are totally off, and I do not like that but it really cannot be helped.

By Rayanne on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 03:01 pm:

Usually aroung 5:30/5:45 for Rylee and 6:00 for Chris and I. If Rylee can wait for her dinner, she eats what we eat instead.

It depends on what is for dinner. I have dinner ready by 6:00...or I try to anyway :) Dh gets home between 5:45 and 6:00. I usually start dinner around 5:00.

By Jann on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 05:03 pm:

I do alot in the crockpot cause I have the time in the am. With teenager and preteen, there is no such time as free time in the afternoons!!

By Jelygu on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 05:10 pm:

between 6-6:30 for Jimmy and I. Christopher usually eats around 6, so I cook our dinner while he is eating his.

By Mommmie on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 05:16 pm:

About 5:15 when I get home from work.

By Cat on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 05:55 pm:

Depends on what I'm making. We like to eat between 5:30-6. On the nights the kids have karate we eat around 6:30 because we don't even get home until about 6:15. I like to have dinner done and the kitchen cleaned up by 6:30 so I can relax the rest of the night. (not like that happens much anyway! lol)

By Trisa on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 06:34 pm:

We eat our main meal around noon
since hubby leaves for work at 1 pm and does
not get home till after midnight. Its not always
easy to think of meals you can have ready by noon
and I hate thinking of what to have in the morning when all I really care about if getting some coffee in me!

DH saw the title of this thread and laughed. My answer would be *never, if I could get away with it!*

By Imamommyx4 on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 - 08:21 pm:

Usually about an hour before dh gets home unless it's something that needs to cook all day.
