Meopause after Hysterectomy question HELP!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive March 2005: Meopause after Hysterectomy question HELP!!
By Kristie on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 10:26 pm:

Hey girls, I need to get some feed back about some things. Scince my hysterectomy in December I have no control over my body!! My face looks like road kill, my hair feels weird like dry or something, I get really angry really fast then get really happy 2 secounds later, when I have to go potty there is NO holding it, during my hot flashes it feels like my head is gonna spontaniously combust, and the nigh sweats and leg cramps are insane. But the biggest thing is the migrain head aches I keep getting. I had them before so I know that is what they are. I can't leave the house because it is too bright out and they don't make sunglasses dark enough, smells, going from sitting to standing, all the symptoms are there.
Don't get me wrong, I am VERY happy I got the surgery but I was just wondering how maybe someone else handled all this or if anyone had these problems. I am on estrogen and it dosen't seem to make any diffrence. PLEASE HELP BEFORE MY HUBBY PUTS ME AWAY IN A CRAZY HOUSE.

My mom is going through menopause & what has helped her the most is soy. She says that the taste is not to terrible to get used to & if she doesn't get enough soy during the day she feels miserable, so that has been her miracle cure.
I was wondering how you have been doing.

By Kristie on Monday, February 28, 2005 - 11:50 pm:

Yucky, I was hopeing somebody wouldn't say soy but I have heard the same thing. I haven't been on my computer much and when I do get on here I haven't seen you much. I was going to post a thread with your name on it to see if you were still around. It is kinda funny that when ever I have something really wrong and I post it you are always the first on to respond. Crazy huh.

Ugh. I don't know any advice. But I am looking at having a hysterectomy in the near future for endometriosis, and I'm only 25.

So all of this is something to look forward to, huh?

I hope you get some helpful advice, and if I come across any, I'll definitely let you know.

I wonder if they have soy in pill form. I hope that someone has a little more advice for you.

I have been really busy with things around here so don't get on as much as I would like.

are you taking any estrogen?? if so, it sounds just a tad off.
www.hystersisters.com is a wonderful message board. go to the hormone jungle for questions.

Your hormones need to be regulated. I was a mess for a few months following my hysterectomy. I had to go off my estrogen and take *male* hormones to rid my body of the remaining endometriosis the idiot surgeon left behind.

I had the roadkill face, the bloating, the mood swings, night sweats, you name it.

I've felt great for 10.5 years now. But, true menopause has hit with a vengeance. There IS something you can take that is OTC, and can be taken WITH or WITHOUT HRT - it's called Estroven, and it WORKS! It totally helps with the night sweats. You should also be taking a calcium supplement, such as Caltrate D Plus, or similar. You should find one with magnesium and vitamin D preferably. That will help keep your bones strong and help with the leg cramps.

Most definitely take calcium! 600 mg twice a day, but I usually take mine at night and sleep like a baby.

Karen, were your ovaries not removed when you had your hysterectomy? Mine were and I was thrown into immediate menopause. Not fun, but I have now found the right balance and life is good again.
