Couch Fluffing Question

I didn't know what to title this thread, lol!

But, DH and I bought a new living room set in Nov. 2003. The past few months they seem to have lost that fluff that they have when new. I know they lose it over time but the cushions just look really flat. I've tried fluffing them myself by taking out the cushions from the case and manually doing it but its not working. Is it time to buy new cushions or is there such a thing as getting them professionally fluffed or something? It sounds like a really lame question, even to me but I honestly dont know. It bothers me everytime I clean. I've been pretty good about flipping the cushions once a week since we've had the couches to prevent too much flattening but that obviously didnt work. Our loveseat isn't as bad as the couch because its rarely sat on. Any advice?

On Trading Spaces one of the designers said to take a warm iron over the seat cushions to give them a little more fluff.

Good question! I'd be interested to know if there is a trick to it as well.

We have two sets of furniture (living/family) in our house. Both are sat on about the same. Our living room furniture was inexpensive and it seems to be loosing it's fluff a little more.

Our family room furniture was a more pricey and it still looks great. And, the family room furniture really takes a beating with the kids all over it all the time.

I think quality has a lot to do with it. Kind of like mattresses. A good mattress can last for years and years and still be a good mattress. But, a cheaper mattress won't hold up as well.

You are probably doing a good thing by flipping the cushions once a week. I'm lucky if I do that once a month. I usually just whiz by with the vacuum and don't even think of the cushions, lol.

you need to rotate their positions as well as flip them.

Yes, like mattresses - flip and rotate. I'm luck if I do this with my mattress every 3 months, but I do try to remember.

I know my mom bought replacement foam inserts for the cushions on the couch she brought out from Chicago, and I replaced the replacements about 3 years ago. Next time around it will be time to replace the couch.

You may have to take them back to the place where you bought them. Perhaps they did not use the correct or the right amount of stuffing. This happend to friends of ours, they returned the whole set. It seems to me that after only 3 months they should not be going flat.
