Scary afternoon

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2005: Scary afternoon
By Kaye on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 06:42 pm:

Well what an eventful past few days I have had. Hubby had been gone with scouts for several days in a row (different kids, different events). Our washing machine broke on wed, our dryer broke last night (i did wash elsewhere..lol). So I am just way far behind in all things cleaning. So today instead of doing that I play tennis. I am gone all day. A much needed break for me. It is just beautiful here, 80 degrees the sun is out, perfect. I am in a rush to get the kids to school. Mondays are always tough. I get htem out the door, I feed myself breakfast. I hop in my car at 8:45 after getting a handful of things done in the house. I come home at 2:30. I open the garage door, I hear the alarm going off, I think security. I open the door to the house, smoke comes billowing out. Long story short, I put a pot on to boil something this am and forgot. It had been on all day, full blast, gas stove. I had to call 911, two trucks, 8 guys show up (not the ones on the calendar though!). They were very very nice, there is NO damage, just lots of cleaning to do. LOTS. I am so thankful that the house didn't burn down. I usually leave the dog in the kitchen when I am gone for the day, but today was so nice she was outside. My house stinks, it is hardly bearable actually. The windows are all open and fans are on. It was scary, I walked in the house, went back to the garage, grabbed my fire extinguisher, went back in the house before I thought...JUST HOW stupid am I?!!? You couldn't see across the room through the smoke (white smoke), it was hard to breathe. Immediately I thought of mike and left the house, had a neighbor dial 911. It took me several minutes to realize what I had done and waited and only could think of the worst. So I will be cleaning house for a week, but oh well. We are safe.

OH NO! I would do that very same thing if I didn't put a timer on everything I cook. (I've almost burned the house down on occasion.)
Ugh...sorry you have to clean. But, you're right, at least it's just cleaning! Glad you guys are ok.

I'm so glad that no one was hurt and there wasn't any damage. The cleaning stinks (literally, I would assume) but it isn't too bad when you consider the alternatives. Keep an eye on those burners from now on! {{{Kaye}}}

(((((Kaye)))))

Don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone is OK. Call your insurance agent. Your home owners insurance may cover smoke damage cleaning and repair. More (((HUGS))).
