Ovarian Cysts

Has anyone experienced them? I went for my annual visit Friday and my GYN found an ovarian cyst. A first for me. I'm scheduled for an US next week. My GYN said ovarian cysts are common but to get an US and then another in 3 mos. just to be cautious and keep an eye on it. I did some research and they do appear to be common, but of course, I'm concerned. No symptoms or pain whatsoever. If it wasn't for my annual exam I would have been clueless. Which makes me realize how important routine exams are!

Sounds like you got good advice from your GYN. If you are not having pain or discomfort and your GYN sees no cause for alarm, but just careful watching, I would think that is good advice. As I recall, some ovarian cysts are somewhat cyclic, coming and going. I did have one, a large one that wasn't cyclic and started giving me a lot of pain with my periods, so had surgery to remove it (and it wasn't the scope kind of surgery they do today, so I have a scar like a zipper from my navel all the way down). They are common.

You have a watchful GYN who is paying attention, and you are smart enough to do some research on your own - a good combination.

I had an ovarian cyst once but I was hurting with mine. It felt hot and achy all the time in my lower right abdomen. The doctor said it was the size of a golf ball and was worried about it. She put me on Motrin 800 mg every 8 hours with very specific instructions to take it without fail regardless if I hurt or not and come back in 2 weeks (or less if I needed to). When I went back it had shrunk to the size of a nickel. Two weeks more of Motrin 800 mg and that the dr couldn't find it so I had an US and they couldn't find it either. So it was gone.
That was the only time.
