Bare Escentuals Makeup

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive February 2005: Bare Escentuals Makeup
By Eve on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 01:15 pm:

I just tried it and I have to say Wow! I really love it. It's so light. It's so different from anything I have used. I love that it feels like I am wearing no make up! I used my regular moisturizer and then applied the foundation powder. I have the bronzer and the mineral veil. It just looks so natural and pretty! I can't wait to try the eyeshadows!!

What else is good by them?:)

By Karen~moderator on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 01:19 pm:

Eve, be careful with the eye shadows. They are generally *shimmery*. On a young person (like yourself!) they are fine, but on someone *my* age, it's overkill. I have several of them, and I've used a matte eye shadow of another brand, then lightly used the Bare Escentuals on top of it.

The lipsticks are good too, I have a couple of them.

It must just be me then, For the life of me, I can't get the stuff to sink into my skin. It just sits there on top and it looks like I have all this powder just sitting on my face. I have tried using less and then it is like no coverage at all. Can one of you come over and show me what I am doing wrong?? LOL

By Vicki on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 02:04 pm:

Ok, what color are you guys using? I just went and looked around on QVC and I ordered a lighter color. I got to looking at mine and perhaps it is a tad on the dark side. The one I ordered looked pretty light, but maybe I can add a bit of what I have here now and get a custom color. You both have me bound and determined to get this stuff to work for me. LOL

By Eve on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 02:20 pm:

Thanks, Karen. I don't like shimmery eyeshadow! :)

Vicki-I think mine is Fairly Light. At first, I thought "this is not covering anything." I used my regular moisturizer, then I used my concealer like always and put it on my eyelids and under my eyes. Then, I kept rubbing in a circular motion with the foundation powder. Then, I used the "warmth" on my cheeks nose and outer forehead. Then, what really made it look good is the "mineral veil". You used that all over everywhere. It just pulls it together. I think that was the ticket!! Do you have that? I bought my little set for only $25 on QVC!I would give it another try.:)

By Vicki on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 02:52 pm:

Yes, I do have the mineral veil and I also think I have the warmth, but if I recall, it was pretty dark for me.... Maybe I just need a little lighter shade of the foundation. I will wait for it to come and try again!!

I found this on their Website. Maybe it will help.
Video Demos

Do you have the Bisque? Maybe you could mix it with the foundation powder you have to lighten it up?

By Andi on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 03:26 pm:

I have always thought about trying that....I am very tempted to give it a try but I just spent $200 on Bobbi Brown Makeup...it was a Christmas gift from DH.
Maybe I will buy that small kit next payday and see if I like it better...I can always return the makeup I bought last week......just a thought. :)

I use medium beige or medium foundation, and tulip blush, and the warm radiance, then the mineral veil. I love the stuff.

By Sue3 on Friday, February 11, 2005 - 11:12 pm:

I am curious about this make-up too ! I have very dry skin though and large pores and am starting to show fine lines .
Is the foundation a loose powder ?
I was wondering if it would settle into my fine lines.
Does any one else have this problem ?

By Truestori on Saturday, February 12, 2005 - 08:57 pm:

Sue,

You can apply your regular moisturizer like normal and they also sell something to put on before hand. It is a loose mineral, feels like a powder. It is suppose to enhance your fine line and wrinkles by diffusing the light. I really enjoy it because it is easy to apply once you get the hang of it. I am not much of a heavy foundation person so this is really all I need. You can get starter sets on ebay, also. QVC is very reasonable and you can return it if your not totally satisfied. HTH's

By Eve on Sunday, February 13, 2005 - 09:02 am:

Sue, I was watching some of the demo videos (on the link I posted above) and they talked about how it was good for lines because you buff the makeup into your lines, so they don't show as much. It's nothing like anything I have ever tried.

Stori-maybe that's what I like. It does something with the light that I feel healthy looking.:)

By Andi on Sunday, February 13, 2005 - 10:34 am:

Okay, you guys have got me curious....I am going to order a set for myself on Monday. I will try that starter kit that Eve got. I am assuming I would buy light?

By Truestori on Sunday, February 13, 2005 - 05:34 pm:

Andi,

Do you have an Ulta store near you? If so they have this makeup there and you can try on different shades. I am very fair and the light was toooo light..LOL HTH"s :)

By Andi on Sunday, February 13, 2005 - 05:58 pm:

We do have a Ulta, I will go on Tuesday when Dylan is in school and check it out...thanks! :)

By Andi on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 04:19 pm:

Okay, I bought a starter kit today at Ulta for $40. I just tried it out and I don't know if I like it or not. I feel like I have powder on my face...maybe I did it wrong. I have 60 days to return it so I am going to try it out and see what I think.

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 04:34 pm:

Andi, you should use a VERY small amount - barely any - of it. It took me a few days of looking like a clown to get it down. Now that I have, I love it. Dab the brush in the powder - or close the lid and shake and use what powder stays on the lid - and swirl the brush in the lid, then blow lightly on it before using it on your face.

The biggest problem I found with getting used to this stuff is that at first, it doesn't look like you're getting any makeup on your face, so you keep adding more, and that's when you look powdery or cakey. Use the foundation color, then the blush or bronzer - use them sparingly - then use the mineral veil - and your makeup *should* come out looking nice!

By Andi on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 04:40 pm:

Okay...I must have used to much foundation. I applied it until I felt like it looked like I had coverage. I just kept buffing and adding more until I accomplished this. I don't feel like it looks powdery or cakey...but I could be wrong. :) When I used just a little, i didn't feel like it covered anything. I have uneven skin tone and it didn't seem to cover it unless I used more.
I really like the idea and I'm going to keep messing with it over the next couple of days to see how well I can get it to work for me.

By Eve on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 05:36 pm:

Andi-Did you check out any of the video demo's I posted above? There is one where they show you how much to put in the lid and it's a very, very small amount. I always use concealer, so I ordered the Bisque that is supposed to be good for coverage. So, I'll let you know how it works.

It does take some getting used to. It's very different, isn't it? I would give it a few more days to really gets used to it. :)

By Andi on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 05:38 pm:

I would love to know what you think of the Bisque. So do you use regular concealer right now with the Minerals?

By Jann on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 05:57 pm:

I use a different brand of mineral makeup (Jane Iredale) and I have trouble looking too powdery too. They do have a wonderful concealer that I spot conceal with, but feel like a need some type of 'something' on top for the rest of my skin.
Is their Mineral Veil like a translucent powder? What exactly does it do?

By Vicki on Thursday, February 17, 2005 - 06:29 pm:

Well, the lighter color that I ordered the other day came in yesterday and I have to say that I tried it today and like it a little better. I am going to keep practicing with it and see if I like it better than the clinique foundation that I have been using. Maybe practice will make perfect!!??

By Katherine on Friday, February 25, 2005 - 11:02 pm:

I use Bare Minerals in light and fairly light. I mix them so that I get the right shade. My skin looks fantastic like it is glowing! I only use the warmth as a contour on my cheek bones and it only takes a teeny tiny dab. It is made of pure minerals so it is different than a loose powder. The mineral veil just sets it in and adds no color or shine. I also have very oily skin and I don't get shiny like I used to even with oil control makeup.

I LOVE THIS STUFF!
