I am a cradle Catholic and we fast on Ash Wednesday and Fridays of Lent. I dont know what the other Christian religions do. So do you or dont you?

I am Episcopalian and we receive the Rite of Ashes today. (We are going tonight, as a family).

We also 'give up' something that we really like for the forty days, as a sacrifice. Last year, my youngest DS gave up chocolate, which was a REAL sacrifice for him. I was so proud of him. Of course, he made up for it on Easter. LOL!

I'm thinking of giving up all restaurant food, or going out to eat, as a family for the period of Lent. No pizza, subs, McDonald's, etc.. We all enjoy it, so that would be a sacrifice.

We are also supposed to spend the forty days really reading the Bible, and for self-reflection.

I don't really "practice" too much. I was/am raised non-denominational and have never done Lent in my life. I always thought it was strictly for Catholics. DH did it last year and decided to give up cussing. Poor Marine didn't last too long!
