Anyone still awake? Need help with a recipe

Found a recipe for guilt free brownies and I can't sleep so what the hay.

It calls for 4 ounces of semisweet chocolate. I only have chocolate chips and I don't have a scale, how do I measure 4 ounces? Would it be about 1/4 of a cup or a 1/3?

By Hlgmom on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 - 11:48 pm:

1/2 cup...8 oz in a cup! Good Luck!

Never mind I found the answer online.

Look at the bag...how many ounces? Most are 12 oz, so just use 1/3 of the bag at best guess. :)

By My2cuties on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 - 11:50 pm:

8 oz. is a cup so I assume it would be 1/2 a cup... I could be wrong, but hey the more chocolate the better. :)

By Imamommyx4 on Thursday, February 3, 2005 - 12:03 am:

The more chocolate the better, I agree.
But they won't be guilt-free any more.
But who cares? It's midnight and we're making brownies.

All right now, Heaventree, I know you're having a hard time with the inlaws, but let's not put anything YUCKY in the brownies......(LOL) Just thought we'd try a little humor....

like...
"raisins" (poop)
"chocolate chips" (laxatives)
"marijuana" (speaks for itself)
arsenic (not traceable)

PLEASE KNOW THAT I AM JUST KIDDING!!!! Sometimes a little "dark humor" helps....AJ

Audrey - you're too funny! I really needed a good laugh - thanks!

Man I wish I would have thought of that before the big blow-up and he left my house to go to a hotel! He loves chocolate!

Oh well if you guys have read my other posts, you know I have been going through a lot these days, at least I no longer have an unwanted house guest anymore. Now I just need to work on getting some sleep.

So how did the brownies turn out?

By Heaventree on Thursday, February 3, 2005 - 02:55 pm:

The brownies are nasty! So much for guilt free. I say go full fat or go home! From now on I'm eating full fat yogurt and Hagen Daas ice cream. I think if you eat the good stuff you don't want as much.

Anyway, the Brother-In-Law is coming over tonight to clear the air, so depending on how things go I just might make a brownie peace offering.

The brownies are nasty because instead of using fat they call for 1/4 cup of prune puree, yuk! The brownies taste like prunes.

Wish me luck tonight I could use some.

Good Luck sweetie.
You will be in my thoughts.
Let us know how things go.

Applesauce is a good substitute for oil in recipes. You might want to try that if you ever try this recipe again!

By Ginny~moderator on Thursday, February 3, 2005 - 06:00 pm:

I agree, "guilt free" or "fat free" treats are just not worth the eating. I have, a couple of times, tried low-fat this or that in cookies, cakes, etc., and every time thought they were just not worth the bother of eating, let alone making.

But I agree, applesauce is a good substitute for oil. Pureed prunes???? Good grief - that is just asking for trouble.

By Ginny~moderator on Thursday, February 3, 2005 - 06:01 pm:

Oh, and "low fat" cheese is truly terrible, imo.
