Buying new washer/dryer any recommendations?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2005: Buying new washer/dryer any recommendations?
By Yjja123 on Saturday, January 29, 2005 - 12:17 pm:

Looking to buy a new washer and dryer. I bought the consumer reports magazine and it said front loaders are best but then it said they are too new for reliable data. ??? confusing!
I am willing to spend more if it will last. This is my third set in 13 years! I want quality and I want it to do large loads. I hate laundry! Anyone with a newer set have any recommendations?
Thanks!
Yvonne

I have the whrilpool duet front loaders.I have had them for a year with no problems.
They do large loads , which is a plus and they are energy efficient.
I bought them for those reasons and also I have a small laundry room and the model I have
can stack on top of one another..
I have been very pleased with them.
A while ago , maybe 5-6 months someone had posted a thread about the front loaders ,
maybe it is still here on the board some where ?
and your could look up more info on them.

Do you have to buy special detergent for front loaders?

By Sue3 on Saturday, January 29, 2005 - 12:39 pm:

you are suppose to.If you don`t ,like myself ,
just use 1/2 the amount of your regular brand.
Or it will suds up ALOT ! LOL !
Then the cycle will take longer than usual because it will keep going to the rinse cycle until all the suds are out !

We got a new washer and dryer last year, front loaders - Kenmore Elite HE3. Love, LOVE them! Supposedly they use 60% less water and are much more energy efficient. We chose Kenmore because our previous set was Kenmore and lasted 15 yrs. without problems and Consumer Reports gave them good ratings. I use the recommended HE detergent. It's getting easier to find and my local stores run specials now and then.

My Mom and my sister both have the Maytag Neptune and have had problems. Sorry, I can't remember the specifics.

Neptune and The Calypso from Kenmore are listed as the worst for repair problems in Consumer reports

Check your state tax dept. In oregon because I bought an energy efficient appliance (dishwasher) it took $50 off my taxes. They may have this program in your state. The salesman may have info if it is avail. in your state also.

I also vote for the Kenmore Elites! We recently got the newer HE4t set and I can't say enough great things about them!!! My sil had the maytag Neptune and had TONS of mold problems. She got rid of them and went with the Kenmore Elites too!!

Front loader. And I like the high efficiency laundry detergents that they recommend. They are no more expensive at Wal-mart. and my clothes have faded so much less since the front loader. They stay looking better for so much longer.
