Our supermarket...

got new "MOM" parking spaces!! Yippee! They put up these 2 signs that say "For shoppers with infants". I was ecstatic because they are SO close and it's SO cold!!

It was funny though, because when I was loading up the back of my SUV (Connor was already in his carseat), this old guy came up behind me staring at what I was doing. It kind of creeped me out at first so I stared back and smiled. He started to get a mad face and said, "Can't you read the sign?!!" He apparently didn't see the 2 strollers and toys in the back, or Connor I guess. I smiled, humored him by looking at the sign again and said, "Oh, I have an infant in there." He said "OH, I didn't realize that. I noticed those signs today and I had to pull back out of the parking spot."
I swear, I get all the strange people in public. But, I WAS glad that he had the courage to approach me and I hope he still does it in the future...to someone who really deserves to hear it.

I love those signs, most say for pregnant woman and woman with small children. So I can REALLY take advantage of those, but if I haven't done my walking for the day I just grap a spot in the back of the lot..lol :) Glad they got them there for you.

They don't have those here. They have parking for prego women at some stores, but none for MOM's with infants.

You are so lucky! Everytime I go out I keep an eye out for "stork parking"....but to much avail. Glad your store is thinking!

We have stork parking here. I can't believe that man went up to you. Honestly what good did he think would come of that? I am the irritable type. He is probably lucky he didn't approach me, or someone packing heat :)

Our store has parking for families with small children. Why infants only?!

By Mrsheidi on Friday, January 28, 2005 - 03:01 pm:

Kaye- I'm in stitches! LOL! You crack me up.
Trina- Maybe they did it for infants since we have a lot to carry and an infant? It's a wholesale club, so no bags.

Our malls have them and I love them as well! We also have family restrooms in some malls with smaller potties, seperate rooms for changing babies with tables, rooms for nursing mothers with nice rocking chairs magazines and in some even a Boppy!

One of our local HEB stores has those spaces, a major help when shopping alone with the kids. The one closest to me now doesn't, but I hope they put some in!! The hospital on post where I delivered the kids put in stork parking at the end of my pregnancy, but it didn't help me when I had to walk an acre in June to get to my appointments anyway. :(

No baby parking anywhere in Sheboygan. I never heard of that before. We have handicapped spots and spots for senior citizens, but that is it.

I just think specifying infants only is absurd. A mother with 2+ kids (toddlers/preschoolers) needs that parking spot as much as (maybe more so) than a mother with one infant. KWIM? No big deal to me, I just think it's odd.

By Kayleesmommy on Friday, January 28, 2005 - 04:53 pm:

Wow! I have never seen those signs or have never heard of them. Maybe they are only on in the east so far. They probably wouldn't have them up here in Alaska but we go home to Oregon a lot and have never seen them. That is really a neat thing. We have a big Dodge quad cab so I always have to park kind far away in the cold :(

By Breann on Friday, January 28, 2005 - 04:58 pm:

That sounds great!
Trina, I agree with you. It was so easy when my were infants. Just haul them into the store in their carseat. But, with toddlers, it's a whole new ballgame! That is much harder than infants, IMO :)
We don't have anything like that here. Just handicap parking. But, sometimes pregnancy is a handicap.

One of out supermarkets has those. I love it. This is a brand new one, with shopping cart cars for my son. I can't get him to sit in a cart anymore, but he loves to "Drive a car".
