Here's to having GIRLFRIENDS!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2005: Here's to having GIRLFRIENDS!

We've lived all over the place since my DH was in the active military. So, it was hard on us to be away from friends and family (as most of you can relate).
Well, we just moved here to Maryland and it's SO nice because my best friend from high school lives 15 minutes away! (Mind you, we went to high school in Boulder, Colorado so this is TOTALLY serendipitous!) We went separate ways because of college (she went on to get her PhD in neuroscience...I'm SO proud of her! It's so interesting to hear her talk about her job...she studies neurotoxins for chemical warfare, etc. I think I live my professional life vicariously through her now! LOL!)

She just got engaged so we went wedding dress shopping in the blizzard! We had 5 of her other friends/coworkers with us and it was SO nice to just go out with "the girls". Aaaahhh...she looked SO beautiful. I got teary quite a bit.

They apparently do a "girls day/night out" once a month, so that will be nice. I was so afraid I wasn't going to make friends out here...I become attached too much so it's hard for me. Plus, it's just NICE to be around someone I've known since the 9th grade...back when we were all freelance idiots and we loved each other just the same! LOL!

PS- Here's to Y'ALL too! It's great to chat with you ladies...don't know what I'd do without you.

Awww, how fun! How long have you been in Maryland now? Are you going to be a bridesmaid?

By Mrsheidi on Saturday, January 22, 2005 - 08:41 pm:

We've only been here for 2 months. She was in my wedding in Colorado but I don't know about being a bridesmaid. She hasn't asked anyone that I know of...I'm sure her sister will be maid of honor.

Thats so nice to have a real close friend nearby. I'm happy for you. :)
By the way, your son's pic in your profile is absolutely the best pic I have seen of a child in a long time! His expression on his cute face is priceless.

Oh neat! I have a friend in college who lives here in Sheboygan and we went to college in Milwaukee. Our friendship survived a 10-year separation when we only saw each other once in a while. She wrote letters all the time and I often called her on the phone. Almost 12 years ago, DH got the job at the local newspaper and we have been living in the same town ever since! It's great. I can't imagine living anywhere else!

That is wonderful, Dawn! Isn't it amazing how comforting it is?
And, Annie, you are so sweet. He really has a different expression on his face all the time. I can ALWAYS tell what's going through his mind...it's just like me. We both wear our moods on our face...LOL!
