Disney movies being vaulted

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2005: Disney movies being vaulted

The Lion King, Lion King 1 1/2, and Lion King 2:Simba's Pride in DVD will be vaulted and removed from all shelves on January 31, 2005. They do this with movies ever so often. I'm not sure why it's profitable for Disney because the movies will wind up on Ebay for exorbitant prices. Then there will be the pirates in Malaysia who sell it on Ebay.

But if anybody wants a copy, if you plan on havng kids in the near future, get your copies now.

They do this with all of them at one time or another. I got a couple for Madison a year ago at the Disney Store that were going to be vaulted and not released again for a number of years. I guess they have so many movies now, and so many re-masters and re-makes, they don't want to have all of them available all of the time..... I never was into marketing so it could be a number of reasons....

DS had his 4th Birthday last week , and I heard about these movies being vaulted so when the Grandparents asked what they could get DS I mentioned those movies. Now DS has the whole set and I'm sure he will love watching them for years.

By the way...if you have not had a chance to see Lion King 11/2..you should, it's sooooo funny! But to really understand it you need to see Lion King. :)

We are looking forward to March, when Bambi comes out on DVD. We are always quoting Thumper from the movie!

Thumper: Kinda wobbly, ain't he?
Thumper's Mother: Thumper!
Thumper: Yes, mama?
Thumper's Mother: What did your father tell you?
Thumper: [clears throat] If you can't say something nice... don't say nothing at all.

and

Thumper: "Eating greens is a special treat, It makes long ears and great big feet. But it sure is awful stuff to eat." I made that last part up myself. (He would rather just eat the clover blossom than the leaves of the plant! LOL!)

When Dh worked at a video store when Disney Vaulted the Movies they were to be gone for 10 years. but I don't know if they still do it that way or not. but When the movies that were sent back they were distroyed.

Several years ago there were several Disney movies vaulted. DS's were older and didn't care one way or another and dd wasn't even a glimmer in my eye. A few years later I have a beautiful dd that LOVES all of the Disney movies and the only place I can find them is on Ebay. I try to be careful and only buy the ones somebody doesn't want anymore. I really don't want to buy pirated movies. It's just a shame and frustrating.

Disney is just manipulating people to rush out and buy their movies by creating a sense of urgency and panic.

I completely agree with Mommmie. It is all about money-making. Why lock up these wonderful movies and prevent children from enjoying them? Ridiculous.

It usually means they are pulled for 7 years or so, and it actually did come to bite me in the butt a couple times. I had a VHS collection of Disney's growing up, Lady and the Tramp and Sleeping Beauty were my favorites. Lady and the Tramp got lost, and Sleeping Beauty was ruined, and I was a teen before I could replace them. (all before Ebay :)) Sleeping Beauty was re-released on my 16th birthday, so my mom got me one early from a friend whose store carried them, pretty cool birthday gift. :) Personally I won't be rushing out to get it now, there are always pawn shops and Ebay to pick up copies!

That's true, and in a pawn shop, you can get them for next to nothing. Check out BOXED sets of ANYthing in a pawn shop - you will pay from $2.50 to $8.00 - depending on what it is.
