salsa emergency

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2005: salsa emergency

ok well not really emergency but this is my first time making salsa and I didn't use a recipe. I just started putting things in the blender. Silly I know but I do it often. Anways it seems to have too much tomatoe taste. Is there anything I can do to fix that. Like maybee put in some more green peppers or something. It has plenty of heat (in my opinion), but too strong of a tomatoe flavor.

I have
Balck beans
cilantro
lemon juice
canned rotel
diced tomatoes (too many obviously)
and jalepenos

Help if you can
thanks

Onions for sure, I prefer limes to lemons as thats more traditional, but if you have lemons use lemons. Definately garlic always adds a spicy kick. Also have you let it sit for awhile? It will not taste perfect just out of the blender the flavors need time to "mingle". Salt enhances flavor and cilantro is a personal preference but I personally like a lot!

P.S. YOU GO GIRL! Some of the best mistakes are made in the kitchen! Throwing a bunch of stuff in the blender isn't silly at all at least IMO, I do it all the time. I use recipes for ideas, I rarily follow them. (except in certain parts of baking bcz alot of that is chemistry) I go home and try to recreate restaurant food often. Anyhow keep up what your doing you'll have good and bad but that will make you a great cook!
