Hit a skunk and can't get rid of the smell!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion Archive: Archive January 2005: Hit a skunk and can't get rid of the smell!

It happened 2 days ago and my car
smells soooo bad inside. As soon as you open
the door it hits you! I have tried sprays and nothing is working! And its winter and pouring rain outside so I can't even air it out.
Anyone ever hit one before? If so how long did it
take for the smell to leave? This is so nasty!

EEWWW!!! Nasty is right! I have no idea how you'd clean it, other than taking your car to a dealer and having them detail it. Just remember, if it's cold right now (I see you're in PA) and they clean it for you, when it warms up the smell might come back. Here in Colorado they were having so many problems with people cutting down pine trees from public places for Christmas trees they concocted a mixture of things like skunk scent, fox urine and a couple other things to spray the trees with. You couldn't smell it outside in the cooler weather, but once you got the tree in your house with the heat the smell supposedly kept getting stronger and stronger! Pretty much solved their problem! lol I hope you find something that works. That's an awful smell.

Hmmm... Reminds me of Trina's incident with her van last year...

Perhaps try a neutralizing air freshener?? Or Febreeze?? I know skunk smell sucks, but the only remedy I know is tomato juice, and that's for when your animal gets sprayed. I hit one last summer, but the small passed before I'd even gotten home, so I can't imagine why you are smelling it so strong. Is it possible something is stuck in the undercarriage of the vehicle?? (((Trisa))) Hope you get the smell out!

I will puke!!

Yea, dont want to freak you out, but that was the first thing I thought of, that you still have a remnant of the deceased attached to your car. If you just hit it, it shouldnt be smelling *inside* the car. Have someone take a look, you dont have to be brave. GL
